that is for your rear air. its a fan that takes in air for the heaters for the back seat. turn on your rear air and you'll hear the fan turn on. toyota did this instead of running a huge air tube to the back. So have you given any more thought to the electric fan. im good friends with a guy who owns a mechanic shop on broadway. he helped me with my fan and he could do yours for cheap. you just gotta get the parts on your own but i could help you with that. If you're having problems getting up I-70 I really think you should do it. There's no draw-backs to doing it. Yup, that was the one "vent control" I forgot to try. I was hoping it was a flex capacitator or something! HA! Thanks Matthew.
As far as the electric fan, it's still in my head as well as many other dreams of mine. After that weekend of mods I did, I am so tapped out, I am lucky if I get a $5 switch for my kill switch mod I have been crafting...
Actually I had been think of the ISR mod, but you are making me second guess that with your experience of losing low-end torque. I want more highway performance, but not at the cost of off road performance...That's got to come first. I have a lot to read up on about this "backpressure" that I hear is so important for low-end torque and off-road crawling power.
I don't have any idea what should be done to an off road rig in regard to intake/exhaust. Maybe nothing but the deckplate mod or any other clever idea one might have that can be reversed for off roading times.
Well one mystery of my 4runner put to rest...

ok no matter what kind of intake mod you do (except a snorkel) your gonna have a water issue IF you drive through deep water. now you should definitely do the ISR for sure. its not a huge gain but i did notice something a little extra. In the opinion of matt starr i think you should do the ISR and remove the elbow. this is insanely easy and cost me bout $7. Theres an exhaust place called lakewood muffler on 10th and wadsworth. His name is adam and he gave me the pipe to do the ISR for free. Then you gotta buy a T-nossle and nipples from ace that cost $7. Removing the elbow is the easiest thing to do. If you take this off driving through DEEP water might be an issue. But the cool thing is, you can put the elbow back on just as easy. I'll give you pic instructions on how to do this if you want. I dont know the specs on intake and exhaust pressure, but i do know that the deckplate mod + ISR only works if you do something to the exhaust. Just replacing the muffler with a high flow one fixes this problem.

Yup that's what it looks like, except the pic I took of mine (never posted it) is with the seat still on, so I didn't get quite the view you have posted. Looks pretty damn complicated for just a fan, but I guess it heats the air too.

I can't believe there is a flux capacitator on EBAY!! I realized after posting, that my joke really dated me...I feel better that someone knew the reference for my joke. I feel younger already...
Thanks for the thoughts, Matthew. I will try lakewood muffler, I am not far from there. The good thing is if I don't like the ISR mod, it's easy to put back to stock. I do some creek crossings, but I don't really plan to bury my rig so deep that the intake becomes an issue... So you think a new muffler is all that would be needed to balance the deckplate/ISR mods?

lol np . it just happen this morning. after having a little fum with wife in bed. I straight went to my truck and took all seats and old carpet out of the truck. now just has the driver seat in it. I'm debating what color carpet put in.
