What is the difference between V6 vs V8

Recently bought an 06 SR5 pretty much stock (V6). Just added portable magellan GPS. I wondered for those of you with a V8 is it full-time AWD without a high/low transer case like the V6 4x4 or what is the difference besides the larger engine?

People can purchase a RWD V8 4Runner.

I have the 4WD V8. Since it is full time 4WD, it only has 4Hi and 4Lo. Peak torque happens at lower revs vs. the V6. I like the fact that the V6 has a timing chain. The V8 has a timing belt.

The 4WD V8s do have HI/LO selector, they just don't have a 2HI Selector like the V6 models. Normally the V8 would be in 4HI for regular driving...

V8 has a factory tranny cooler while the V6 does not.

Do a search, this topic has been discussed before. You'll have to get creative with your search strings because V6 and V8 won't work since they are so short...

V8 has a weight distributing hitch (it's attached to the frame rails) rated for 7000lbs 4WD and 7200lbs 2WD.

V6 has a weight carrying hitch (it's attached to the last cross-member) rated for 5000lbs for both 4WD and 2WD.

Depending where your from - the CDN versions have a tranny cooler with the V6.

Early '03 V8's have the weight carrying hitch. I think they changed over to the weight distributing hitch in V8's sometime around March or April of '03.

The V6 has the transmission cooler that's inside the radiator. The V8 has an additional external transmission cooler in addition same cooler as the V6.
