The really thin plastic "guard" forward of the gas tank? I took it off because the side looks alot better without it, but what is it for? Its plastic and mine was torn. Obviously not a skidplate. Any ideas?

From what is underneath it, it looks like its a guard for the fuel filter and fuel lines on that side of the 4runner.

i agree with luigi123 and if it's there it's there for a reason. But it really depends on how much off roading you do.

probably protects the fuel lines and such from things like branches and such..im sure a good wack from a branch could leave you VERY stranded if you mashed your fuel filter

i'd recommend leaving it on. Even road debris can get thrown into it. Think about how fast a small rock passes by the car doing 60mph on the freeway. Better safe than sorry.

does anyone know where I can get a new one of these? Mine is jacked, and looks like someone took a hack saw to it.
