What is the RR lock dif button

What is the RR LOCK DIF. button on my 97 SR5 v6 do and how shoul it be used.

This button allows your rear wheels to be electronically locked together when your stuck or traversing through rough stuff that calls for power from both rear wheels. It can only be operated in 4LO and activated under 5 mph, but you can disable the safety so you can use the lockers in 2WD, 4HI, or 4LO.

In my 02 I lock the diff in 4hi in the snow so I can pitch it sideways and slide around a corner or do doughnuts. It turns off the VSC too.

In most cases you will never use it unless you off road or get it stuck....but it is a nice option to have.

thats a CENTER diff, not rear.

Actually it doesn't send more power to the rear but it does as you stated positively lock (meaning no slip between the wheels) which in turn keeps the existing power turning both wheels for max traction.

The locker,however,should not be used to drive on slick surfaces since you'll just end up backwards if you do and on dry hard surfaces you'll get a lot of chatter when turning so obviously,you wouldn't use the locker then either.

One thing that bothers me about the factory locker is that it doesn't engage and disengage right when you push the button, when engaging, its takes some movment, and when disengaging, I have to turn the wheel until it "clunks" and disengages.

Yeah,it could have better engagement at least but once you use it a few times especially if you off road with it,you get used to it.

not trying to steal this thread, but how do you disable the safety? ive searched this forum for the answer...but cannot find it!

It means you have a defective rear axle, and you should swap it with mine, lol. jk.
