What is this 1997 worth?

For a long time I have been looking for a good 4runner to buy. I mainly want a backup vehicle that is dependable and I love a truck.

I ran across a 97' limited edition 4x4 with almost 200k miles on it. I won't be driving it a ton so miles don't matter as much to me. From the right side it looks great, however the owner hit something and damaged the left from drivers side. My friend that does body work said it's a $1000-1500 fix to get it right, but he believes it's cosmetic only. A few minor dings otherwise but looks nice besides the wrecked spot. The other thing is the tires on it look like they have maybe 5000k miles left on them.

The main thing I could really use some help on is, how much less is it worth with the damage and bad tires? There are several comparable 4runners within a few hours drive, but one listed as the same price has new tires and brakes, one minor dent on a door. It is one year newer but has about 220,000 miles, also runs great, very comparable I think.

Seeing as there are similar 4runner with much less body damage and way better tires, is this one overpriced?

I would appreciate any help given, I am hoping I can get a good deal on it considering it's condition and that I have a friend that can patch up the expensive body work.

The first one would prolly go for $1500-2500 depending on damage, the second is prolly $3500.

You know your business, they are marked at $3500. I am more interested in the first because I can afford it now and fix it as I go. Just sure seemed high, especially considering I was going to have to spend about $750 for tires very soon, not to mention the damage.

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to give way too low of an offer, I want to be fair but also have to be realistic.

Thanks much for your input,

Maxil

P.S. the 1997 is a limited and the 1998 (non damaged one) is an SR5, will that make a ton of difference?

The Limited is a guaranteed leather seats and auto tranny, the SR5 could be Cloth and a Stick, and the SR5 with cloth and a 5 speed after 220k miles, would definetly be in better shape than leather after 200k miles.

I really appreciate the help, I never thought about leather after being that old, my car has cloth and is fine after 12 years. Also the transmission is a good point. Just almost feels wrong to offer around $2000, but I think they were just shooting way high on the price, also is listed at OBO so maybe I can get a fair deal on it after all.

Thanks again,

Maxil

LOL of course, you are taking the advice of two SR5 owners that both have manual transmissions and cloth interiors too! LOL keep that in mind! ;):

i bought a 97 that has 120k, just had timing belt and pump donw..new tires put on..and then wrecked in the front. i'm able to do all the work myself...and i did have to have a frame horn pulled over about 1" at a shop, new fenders, hood, rad support and everything attached to the front end. i bought the car for $3000, and have $1000 total in parts and repair. here in denver i'm still coming out ahead over buying a comparable that's not wrecked.

Thanks again for the replies, now if they will just get back to me with the Vin# I can check it out.

I hate waiting,

Maxil
