What is this hole?

i am a 4runner newbie. I just bought a 2013 4runner 4wd limited. Theres a square hole on the upper left of the shift console. It looks like a cover is missing,....What is this thing? heres a pic..

Shift Override Cover. Should have been installed during the PDI (Pre-Delivery Inspection), it could have been lost during transport if you bought the vehicle used. Its an easy enough part to have the dealership replace.

^. When I first bought by 2007 SR5 (second hand) from a dealer, there was an issue where it wouldn't let me shift from park even though my foot was on the brake. It also made my brake lights not work.

I had to use that little button to shift out of park before the dealership fixed it. There should be a little cover for it. But you can just stick your finger down there and it will free your shifter.
