What is this parts purpose

Just curious if it is a counter balance purpose or the transfer case can function without it properly. TIA.

It's a vibration dampener. The transfer case will function without it but it's there to prevent a harmonic vibration.

Kinda figured it had a purpose like that. Thanks. I was hoping it wouldn't be, so I could put more re enforcement in that area.

Ditto, I don't have one either. Maybe that's why I have that crazy harmonic sound at speed on the freeway. Good thing my volume knob works on the radio.
