What is this?

Not on a 4Runner, but since parts are shared I figured I would ask here anyway. What is this? It's a custom upper control arm eliminator? I searched for a bit and I can't find anything on it. This is just on a truck I have parked in my neighborhood. Owner doesn't know either, bought it with it on there.

But how can you ditch the upper control arm? The owner lifted up on the truck with his bare hands and that auxiliary shock went up, but wouldn't rebound.

Highly modded/custom UCA, looks like it pivots on bushings toward the rear but hard to tell from the angle?

Another picture from more of a behind the wheel perspective would help. Like crank the wheel all the way outward to get a good shot of what's going on back there...

Is it a Ford. Looks like straight axle with radius rods. No upper control arms. That shock looking thing has me stumped.

Yep, trailmaster kit! Googling that brought up exact pictures. Can't believed searching for control arm delete, aux shock, nothing! They call it a lift shock. Crazy looking.

Please don't post anymore pics of that junk.. Damn near made me throw up with the 2 you already posted

That looks like a macpherson strut design. The lack of an upper control arm makes it apparent. I'm guessing that was a full kit - the macpherson strut and spacer. That stupid spacer makes the Uca useless. The lca must be modified as well
