What is THIS?

I was looking for the PCV valve and noticed the V8 has a huge space in between the block and intake manifold. Upon closer inspection I noticed something in there.

I can't imagine this stuff is supposed to be there. What is it, a mouse nest?

If so, I'm worried where it got it's raw materials because it isn't a blanket or outside stuff from what it looks like. I suspect it came from somewhere else on the truck

Oh and where the heck is the PCV on the V8?

I don't understand how a mouse could survive in there. It obviously took a little while to make but yet my runner never sits more than a day. In that place I imagine it gets VERY hot. I can see tham living in the air intake but on top of the block? When I pull the whole nest out I will take another pic.

Hi there! I am the person who posted a thread about a mouse infestation in my 4Runner. The service guys at my local Toyota dealership in Winnipeg found seeds, corn and dog food (!) in the blower motor, pollen filter and heater ducts. In a week or so they are taking the dash apart and cleaning/deodorizing the heating ducts, plus making sure the wiring hasn't been chewed on. My insurance is paying for it (minus the deductible).

The technicians did not see any signs of a nest in the engine block, just lots of food the mice were storing away (for quite some time). The 4Runner is my primary vehicle, but my husband and I drive his car when we go anywhere together, which is most of the time.

The techs suggested putting Bounce dryer sheets under the hood and in strategic places because the rodents seem to detest the smell. My husband and I also cleaned out the garage and set a mouse trap-- we caught one so far!

Sorry to see someone else with what might be a mouse problem. It would be best for you to check the air filters, ducts, etc. to make sure they aren't using your 4Runner as their winter storage facility. Good luck!

Looks more like some type of insulation. Is is fire retardant? Try lighting it on fire. If it doesn't stay lit, then it is more than likely some type of insulation.

I'll try that as soon as I get the rest out. I think I'll have to vaacume it as I can't get to it with anything else. The funny thing is that I don't know haow long it's been there. It could have been there since the day it came off t he boat!?
