What is your *least fav* 4G feature?

In the same theme of the *fav* thread, what is your least favorite thing about the 4G? Something that you wish was engineered a little better or even a feature that may have been handy, but is useless to you. I know this one is going to be a lot harder than the *fav* thread for some folks, but even as much as we love our trucks, there are things we wish were a little different about them.

For the purpose of the discussion, I am going to exempt anything that could be TSB related such as the sulfur exhaust issue or the drivetrain thunk issue (for example).

Possibly my least favorite thing would be the lack of headroom when you have a sunroof. With my seat lowered all the way, if I sit upright, my head touches the roof (and I am only 5'11"). When I ride in my friend's Chevy Tahoe, it is like the roof is barely within reach. I would have liked for them to have given us at least two more inches of headroom.

Least favorite thing

Simple - air recirculation. If I could figure out how to disconnect that feature, I would. I hate it when all I want is outside air coming in, and I turn the temp to LO, and the recirculate feature gets turned on by default. Hate it. And it stays that way when I turn the truck off and then on again. Did I say I hate that?

Oh, OK, so there's a second feature. The rear door HAS to be opened by using the handle on the door. Why not have a button on the key fob to release the latch? Dumb design.

And no lights on the Homelink buttons.

Oh, another one - the LCD in the heater/fan/clock/computer cluster. It's very hard to read under the best of circumstances, and impossible in sunlight. Should be LEDs.

4 things on a vehicle as complex as this one. Not bad. I really love everything else about it. But that darn air recirculation. Drives me nuts. I hate it.
 
The damn seats sit too low to the floor. Of course I had to fix that by creating a bracket that lifts the front seat legs up a bit higher...
 
seats/headroom could be better...BUT for something that hasn't been listed:

if you use the fob to lock with a door open, it fails to lock, even after the door is closed! d-uh!

the rear window goes down (so awesome) but not up (without mod)

I doubt I'll be able to get in/out in winter without messing my pants on the running boards.

The 30-second time limit after you unlock the doors, why do they have to lock back?

The seat bottom is a bit short, no support beyond mid-thigh for us tall folks.

Navigation doesn't display your speed, your current address, and the next upcoming cross street. (All features that are on my two-year old Garmin 2610.)

No overhead light for the cargo area.

But hey, if I was offered a full refund, I'd refuse it. This is still my favorite vehicle of all time.
 
- Placement of the window controls.
- Only being able to lower, not raise, the rear window with the remote.
- Crappy headroom with the sunroof and the difficulty of ordering a Limited without one.
- Placement of the 110V outlet in the console.
- Inaccuracy of the mileage computer.
- Shortage of 12V power points.
 

I may be in a small minority, but I don't much care for the HVAC controls. Seems a bit cumbersome to me -- as I am "old school" regarding such things.

The auto-locking feature (when you put the vehicle in gear) on the doors is somewhat annyoing, but hardly worth mentioning. I have gotten to the point where I unlock all the doors by reflex action when I arrive home with groceries in the back seat or hatch area.

Basically, I love my 4Runner and enjoy driving it - so if these two things are worst I can think of.....perhaps I should not complain.

P.S. I am just a tad shy of 6 feet tall, and I never have had a headroom issue with my moonroof-equipped 4Runner SR5.
 
The interior kind of bugs me. On my 2000 SR5, comapred to other cars I think the interior sucks. For some reason I'm a sucker to cool interiors and accessories in the interior.

My MPG is currently 10 city. I think theres a problem though and I need to get that fixed however.

Can't really think of anything else.
 
I'm 6'1" no head room problem's with sunroof. My father on the other hand ( 6' 11" ) is a completely different story....lol

There are some little thing's I would like to see different , but it's all insignificant little crap that you would find on any vehicle.
 
I don't have a 4runner...but...hell, i am the admin...so i can say whatever i want!:D

My criticism of 4runner is basically related to it's underbody...it could be cleaner (aka more tucked up). The skidplate for TC is a joke...but, thanks to teotwaki, a hefty replacement is on it's way! See this thread:

(BTW, the reason why the interior has a low step-in and roomy is because of this less-than-clean underbody.)

My other complaint is related to the new car-compatibility crash requirement of the front bumper/crossmember. The 4runner's front end is low (as is all modern SUVs). So, this is really not a complaint because Toyota has no choice in the matter, but still a complaint that was not on my '02 4runner.

Otherwise, the 4runner (esp. 2006) just looks great and i would buy one in a heartbeat! It's a real good value.
 
The fact that the power window and mirror switches do not light up. It's retarded. They managed to have the steering wheel stereo controls light up, why not the freakin window switches? Every other car on the road seems to have lighted ones.

That's a real peeve of mine. The only other issue I have is all the silly electronic quirks, like the HVAC system automatically switching to air recirculation, the utterly inaccurate computer calculations, the annoying door locking/unlocking/auto-locking confusion. All in all there seem to be more ECUs than necessary.

Here's one reason: in case you accidentally hit the unlock button the remote and didn't realize it. After 30 seconds, the door(s) will re-lock themselves.

Here's my "least fav" list:

- the new tube step bars on the '06 Sport Edition. I don't like the way they look.
- auto up/down only on the driver's window. I know all auto up/down is a "Lexus-only" feature, but I think the 3G had auto up/down for the driver and passenger window.
 
The non lit up power window buttons!!! To have designed a vehicle as nice as the 4th gen 4Runner and then to not light those damn switches up is a shame. It aggravates me every time I have to search for them at night.

And is it just me or does the rear lift gate seem heavy. I'm no wimp (6 ft 210 lbs) but that thing is hard to get closed some times. Maybe it's because I'm trying not to touch the paint and get my paw prints all over the outside of it. :)

The sulpher exhaust smell. My 03 had it bad and I was hoping the new 06 would be better. But today when I got into it really good for the first time, there it was, rotten eggs! Damn it!
 
These are all minor, but here goes:
-My front windshield wipers squeak and don't do a great job of cleaning the window (already replaced a few times)
-Can't open or close the windows with the key fob
-Placement of the gas release lever. I don't know about everybody else, but I always fear that I will accidently release the hood and look like an idiot at the gas station! :awais:

If you have a 4th Gen, check the owner's manual for programming that feature. I set mine to lock at 15 MPH and to unlock when I go into Park

You do know that if you just barely shut it, and i mean barely as in let it fall under its own weight, it will pull it self shut and latch it right?
