Are, not is.
Hobbies is plural.
Hobby is singular.
Are for plural.
Is for singular.

A different perspective:
Hobbies change. I am in the next stage of my life compared to some of you. My children are grown now and after spending 20 years nurturing, watching, chasing, cheering, disciplining and teaching them has mostly come to an end. Sure, we still go to our son's college soccer games but driving and flying to places like Alabama or New York is not quite the same as going out to the local soccer field or basketball court on a Saturday morning and cheering them on.
We are going down to South Carolina tonight so my wife can go wedding dress shopping with our daughter. :nono: Basically what I am saying is what was an all consuming life for 20 years has now come to an end. A bit of counseling here, a bit of teaching there still happens but by and large it's over and no matter what anyone tells you it's a tough transition if you are a good parent.
I used to build a lot of things like tables, desks, cabinets and things but after awhile, you don't need any more of those items. I still have all my tools and use them every now and then but not like I did back before kids or during kids.
I still ride the crap out of mountain bikes though and will until I either physically can't ride anymore or until I die. I love it that much. I did several night rides this season and that opens you up to a whole new world! It's tough now sometimes to hear the dreaded "on your left" and see some 20 year old passing you. You know that not too long ago (well, maybe too long ago haha) you would have been saying the same thing to him. That's OK. Slower is not a bad thing I keep telling myself.
We still live life to the fullest even though we are getting older. We hike, go on trips at the spur of the moment, drive 1,000 miles in a day, etc. We still have plans and dreams but they are scaled back quite a bit from our younger days.
The moral of my story is this: Enjoy today. Whatever your hobbies are you need to enjoy them today. Tomorrow you might either lose interest or physically be unable to do them anymore. For those of you that are active with your children, enjoy every moment and take lots of pictures because that part of your life will be gone in the blink of an eye. For those of you who are into adrenaline producing hobbies, the adrenaline still kicks in baby!!!
