What kind of diagnostic computer required?

I don't know a lot about the computers in the 4Runner. After skimming through the service manuals, I noticed one is called a "mulitplex" computer or something. And one is the Engine Control Unit.

Does anyone know what kind of computer is required to change things like the volume of the beep when the doors are locked/unlocked? And how much a computer like this costs and where it plugs into?

Hey Carl_G,

If it is the Toyota factory installed alarm system, you should be able to adjust the volume of the beeps when the doors are locked and unlocked by using your key fob.

I have attahced the technical service bulletin issued for the 1999 T4R.

I tried that with no success; but thanks anyway! My 4Runner is 2003 and that may be why.
