I just saw some interesting information on CNN.

Apparently Toyota only sells the Lexus line of vehicles here in the U.S. They have never sold them in Japan.

They just announced today that they will start selling their Lexus line in Japan.

Lexus stand for:
Luxury EXport to the US.

The official line from Toyota when Lexus first came out was:

Luxury + US = Lexus. "Luxus" did not sound good...so, Toyota changed the "u" to "e." I have never heard of the explanation above.

Seriously, Lexus is simply Toyota reliability with extra money spent on better appearance, luxury, comfort and better materials for added durability.

It's THE most reliable car in the U.S. market.

The definition of Lexus didn't come from me.

CNN reported it was given this information by Toyota.

They are sold in Hong Kong and Australia as Lexus.

As far as I believed, in both countries the word Lexus was derived from luxury and elegance but I have not really thought about it that much:

Unsuspecting buyer Not hardly at all. I have both vehicles and
there is a world of difference in comfort and features. For a
person who cant afford or have no interest in them then they
dont make sense. But if like the finer things and dont mind
paying a little more cant beat it. No difference in if ya want
to bounce around in basic vehicle like a tahoe for little money
or have the better leather, wood, and features of a Caddy.

i take that back, i bet half the people in the u.s. couldn't find michigan on a map. and if you can't find michigan . . .
