What modifications should I put on my 4Runner?

I have a 2005 SR5, completely stock except for tires. I have taken it offroading before, but nothing serious. I was just concerned about breaking things without having a lift, etc. I have already had to replace CV joints once, has a "temporary" fix on driver's side with a hose clamp. What should I do to put less damage on the vehicle when I do go offroading such as an upgraded bumper or body armor?

Learning how to offroad properly will save your vehicle from damage compared to any mod. I'm assuming based on your question you don't have much experience but everyone has started from your exact position.

Gotta agree with above, learn how to drive what you have first, then you'll figure out what you need. Stay on the easy trails for a while and learn what your truck can do and how to drive it.
