What Mod's Should Come Next?

I recently special ordered up a 2008 4Runner Sport Edition (my 2nd t4r) and am of course loving it.

But, I was curious what recommendations members have for what mod's I should do next? This is definitely the best place to find advice.

So far I have put a CF 2/1 Spacer Kit with 265/70/17 Nitto Terra Grapplers, a TRD exhaust system, a TRD high flow air intake, taken the running boards off, put some "better" hi/low/fog lights in, and upgraded the stereo slightly.

I am off roading quite a bit, so was also curious if anyone has a CB in their gen 4 and what their set up was? And also just curious what mod's people think are worthwhile?

the rear differential breather mod is cheap, easy, fun and most importantly functional! $15 , 30 mins and you are DONE SON! thats what id do if i were u... do a search and ull find the necessary threads.
 
I upgraded my headlights/fog lights at first as well, but an HID kit was like night and day.Also, if you haven't already, I recommend all weather mats.

Do you have any pics? We have similar setups so I am curious.
 
I actually don't have a pics of it post-lift, only from before.

I got my lift and tires this weekend, so have not got a chance to take pics yet. (i was planning on taking some but discovered that my camera was dead)

I will try to get some tomorrow though.

How do you like the set up so far?
 
....and as for rear differential breather mod, I am definitely considering it.

I have spring break this coming week and with all the free time that I will have I think there is a good chance I will find myself doing this mod. Thanks man.
 
I installed a cb in my center console....hooked up a PA which I ran through one of my channels of my amp so its really loud and even hooked up an external speaker so the cb sounds clearer.....I have a magnet mount antenna on the roof, its pretty nice....

I've only had the lift installed for about a month, and the tires for about 2 weeks, but I love them both, as I am sure you will too. Did you install the lift yourself or have a shop install it? That would be an expensive weekend if you paid for tires, and a lift install. Yikes.
 
SportRunner- Do you have a pic of where you installed your cb inside your console?

And Josh- I got it installed by a shop, it was definitely an expensive weekend. To get the lift put on it was $336, which was quite a bit but it was done by a shop I really trusted so that was worth the extra money. The tires cost me $500, which I thought was actually a pretty good deal for 4 tires, getting the stock tires taken off, new ones put on and balanced

Did they also do the alignment for you? If so, then that's not a bad price. I paid something like $619 out the door for my Nitto's, without a trade in. Since I only had 6k on my Dunlops, I am selling them on my own. The price of the Nitto's broken down was $132 per tire, and $13 per tire for mount/balancing.
 
Nope no alignment unfortunately.

I just got that done today for $50, although I felt bad for the guys, the front skidplate that they had to remove was bent up from offroading so it took them forever and they got covered in dirt.
 
If you plan to offroad then I recommend armor first lift after.

This way you protect your vehicle to get in and out of the woods.

It's a cheap solution to keep you out of the body shop. Those stock running boards will definitely do a number if you accidentally hit a rock/log whatever.

lift/tires after the sliders. if you have more $ look into some nice bumpers and skid plates. this sports gets expensive but it's fun :)

just keep in mind the perspective of knowing that your stock 4runner is more than capable of tackling the majority of the trails you think you can not (to a certain extent). So with that mind it never hurts to go all out stock too (well I still recommend sliders though).

Everything else is extra. good luck

I have a quick question on sliders, since you seem very informative. Do the majority of them bolt on to the existing holes, or do most of them need to be welded? I'm considering Shrockworks...

Good Times is among the most knowledgeble members... take a look at his personal site, chaosedition.com.

They come in both flavors, IIRC, Hanna Quality, 4crawler and Shrockworks are bolt-on, Demello and Stubbswelding require welding.
 
do whatever you want to j220. I think once I get a set, most like SW, ill get weld ons simply bc i dont see a need to ever take them off.

and GoodTimes is one of the forerunners in the 4runner area ;-)

The factory bolts are not sufficient enough so you'll need to either get the weld on version or the bolt on version that utilizes a different method of bolting onto the frame.

Shrockworks are definitely a great vendor but definitely take advantage of the local vendors as you'll free yourself from the shipping that usually adds up the $$ (just a reality and not attempting to push you anywhere else). I know in socal there are lots of vendors out there so have fun shopping.

yeah i am thinking these will be my next big mod too, are the bolt on ones worse than the weld on ones in any way?

haha it looks like josh and i have very similar set ups and it will stay that way
