What oil to use on my 100k+ Limited?

Finally hit the 3k oil change mark......it's got 113 on it and the original owner did a good job of changing it every 3k with dino oil.
I want to switch it to Mobil 1....do any of you think it will be a problem? Or should I go to one of those "high mileage" types instead?

Just changing the oil is the best thing to do...if you want to switch to Mobil 1 go for it...good brand of oil.

I am one of the ones that have posted to not change to Mobil 1 on a high mileage car. There have been some problems with oil going by the rings and new leaks develop. I did not change over in my high mileage cars.

BUT, I think you may be alright in your 4Runner with 113,000 miles on it, especially if the orginal owner changed every 3,000 miles. I would be tempted to give it a try. I am also a firm beliver in the 3,000 mile oil change, but I went up to 5,000 miles with Mobil 1. To me changing 5,000 miles on synthetic is a bit of a over kill, maybe even better than regualr oil at 3,000 miles. So if you change, you might want go a little longer with synthetic.

If you have a concern with high mileage problems, I would go with higher weight conventional oil, such as 10 W 30 instead of 5 W 30. If the car uses a oil, I may even be tempted to go with higher wieght oil, (maybe 10 W 40), but the engine should be well worn and on it's last leg.

With 113k on the clock, if it were mine I'd prob. use 10W-40 or just continue to use 10W-30 for a bit longer as that is what I've used since new.

I've read the same thing on other boards with regard to high mileage cars but who knows if it's oil related or simple neglect.

Mobil 1 conventional is a very good oil no matter what the milage. Personally, I don't think that the high milage oil makes much of a difference when compared to conventional oil. My son drives a modified '93 Acura Legend Coupe with 128K on it, and he uses Mobil 1 5W30 oil and the cars runs great.
