What other forums do you guys run?

I'm just curious, when T4R.org went down last month. Other forums were listed on this web page too. I remember seeing Hondapilot.org (somethin like that) and some other vehicle realated forums ending in .ORG. So what other forums do you guys run? Are they the same calibre of peeps?:awais:

not to be a big dick head.....

Those vinyl stickers aren't at cost. If they are... he's buying the rolls of vinyl for way too much. I know this because 3 of my friends own vinyl machines (2 decal businesses and 1 personal) and it sure doesn't cost them that much.

On the other hand.. I firmly applaud the owner and admins for providing us with such a fantastic forum. Makes me proud to be a T4R owner.... we'll... two T4R in our family. :D

I visit this one most frequently, but here are the two others i visit:

Diecast Pub I am a huge model car collector. Of course my avatar there is my 4Runner also! :D

iPod Lounge I sometimes go here. iPods are another thing that interest me.

Well, if you want to know the whole story...(if not, then look at the last paragraph)

Back in 1998, i met Gatorgreg through a Honda CRV forum because both of us owned one. When that forum started to require annual fees to join, Gatorgreg decided to start his own Honda CRV forum where membership is free. I agreed to join him and help start the forum. He then investigated and got support from a guy who runs ACURAMDX.ORG (he later ventured into HONDAPILOT.ORG, etc.).

So, with the help of the Acura guy, in 4/02, we started GOCRVCLUB.ORG. To this day, the forum is still 100% free (GG is paying for it too) and is the 2nd largest CRV community on the net. The biggest is still the old CRV forum that we broke off from. Of interest, a few months after our CRV club opened, the old CRV forum made the annual fee "optional."

Then, at the end of 2002, i got a 2002 Toyota 4runner. Gatorgreg came up with the idea of starting a 4runner site similar to the CRV club. I wanted a site for everyone, not just the hardcore off-roaders. And since the redesign '03 4runner was just coming out, we figured that it would be a good time to have another 4runner forum (aka room for another forum). Of course, it would have to be free too. And the rest is history.

So, to make a long story short, GG has 3 forums: GOCRVCLUB.ORG, T4R.ORG, and HONDA-ELEMENT.ORG.

(Honda Element forum branched off from his own CRV forum.)

I own 3 sites, the others are for the CR-V and Element. I started this site back when Thai traded in his CR-V for a 4Runner, but I refuse to start one for his new G Class :D This site shares server space with several other sites owned by my buddy Daniel (MDX, PIlot, etc). When the server went down last month that's why you saw them listed.

I don't recall saying the stickers are being sold at "cost" so I'm not sure where Thai came up with that one :D In fact I believe on the page where I discuss how someone can purchase a sticker (see link in my sig) it clearly says something to the effect of "thanks in advance for helping support the site with your purchase" Running a site like this is not free :)

Why, Greg?? G class owners are able to pay enough to finance that forum plus all the others you own!! :D

Thanks guys for a great forum.

I frequent this forum and Yotatech mostly. I find both very informative and helpful. I'm glad this forum is not just aimed at the hardcore offroader as there are many other mods and problems than just gears and suspension. Besides mine is still a mall cruiser :(

That is a very interesting history there. Thanks guys for running a great forum. I come here more often than the others because I am not a serious off-roader. On the other hand, my 4Runner is not a mall cruisier either. :D Keep up the good work!

Maybe so, but think of all the 4Runner owners you'd be helping out! ;):

And all this time I thought Thai started & hosted this site! I didn't know who sent me the sticker - way cool & thanks!

This site has helped me out in so many ways on a myriad of little things - and a couple big ones. It's like having my whole block be owners of 4R's, and I just go out & talk to the neighbors each morning over coffee, etc. Without the Internet, this sort of thing would be pretty difficult.

The other site I frequent is the Open Roads Forum http://www.rv.net This is a HUGE site with probably tens of thousands on it - including many 4Runner & Tundra owners who are towing things.

There was a spin-off from the RV forum called Campfire Soapbox (for political, religious, you-name-it discussions) that I used to practically live on before the presidential elections. Now that Bush got reelected I've sorta lost interest in just beating my head aganst the wall, and don't harly ever go there any more.
