What r my Sirius options?

I know there are many threads written about this, but I thought I would add one more...since I can't seem to find the exact answers to my situation.

I have an 03 Sport, with the Scion HU that I put in a few months back. In addition I hooked up the PIE adaptor to play my ipod thru the CD changer input.

Now I want Sirius radio as well...and it probably takes more importance than anything else. Thus I am willing to dump the ipod hook-up if need be...or the Scion HU.

At present, I have the Sirius Starmate Replay going thru the FM transmitter...and note that none of it is premanently installed. I rig it up every time I use the 4runner...with wires everywhere.

That said, what is the best way to have Sirius permanently wired?
Do I buy a new PIE to hardwire the Starmate to the Scion HU thru the CD changer input?
Is there a new HU that works with Sirius?
My current HU has a button for SAT (satellite radio)...will it that work with a Sirius radio? If yes, what do I need to buy.

Bottom line. I want the best set-up without breaking the bank...and a clean look.

I had one of those 'Starmate Replay' Sirius units and two weeks ago I had an entire aftermarket system installed. My new Kenwood HU was Sirius ready and I had a Sirius receiver installed and now my HU is my Sirius controller. I put the Replay in my Tundra for now.

You could use the CD changer input for the Sirius unit you currently have. What's the cable look like from your iPod to the PIE adapter? Does the PIE adapter you currently have accept either a 1/8" input or dual RCA plugs? If so, you can dump the ipod and hook up your Sirius to it.

The sat car docks have an audio output jack and you can then buy an 1/8" to 2 RCA cable to hook up to that PIE adapter.

If your Scion HU has another set of audio IN RCA's (auxiliary) then you can just use those.

Or buy an aftermarket that has a CD changer inpu AND another aux audio IN.

The HU's sat option is only for a receiver to be plugged in (and the HU would be the controller). You have a receiver and a controller built-in with your portable unit: and I wouldn't trade the REPLAY feature of your unit for some crappy HU controller, in my opinion.

(Then do the mod I did in my signature to hardwire the power to it and you'll be all set) !!!

Lots of choices. Up to you to decide which way to go...

I assure you that my HU controller is everything but crappy. I have had the set up with the little unit and all the wires, I also have had the unit hardwired on one of my other cars and I now have the HU controller set-up in my 4Runner. No matter how you hook it up, the satellite signal is mediocre at best. The sound is not CD quality and the signal has never been as good as regular FM reception. I have all of my Sirius units in all of my cars because I like all the channels and I like gadgets. Having had it done all 3 ways, I can tell you the HU controller is the cleanest one, and between the three, I can tell you the sound quality is noticeably superior. It just plain sounds better. The signal initiates quicker when you start it up and the drops are far less frequent. I can go through tunnels and under bridges and power lines most of the time with no signal interruption at all. Additionally, although some people have come up with some very clever places to mount their auxiliary units, I have never seen one that was placed in a location that appeared to be, 'where it belongs' including mine. Especially with that bright blue readout. That's why my Starmate is just sitting on the ash tray in my Tundra. Insofar as the Replay feature goes, I just had to ask myself, 'How often did I have to hear something that came through my Sirius unit again right away?' The feature was novel last year when I bought the unit and after the novelty wore off, it became nothing more than useless fluff. To each his own. Satellite Radio is a work in progress in its early stages.

I meant crappy as in "lack of features" compared to the portable units. My bad.

I love using the replay feature in conjuction with my Viper 791 remote starter/alarm. I start up my car every morning about 1/2 hour before I leave and the unit starts recording Stern's show. I rewind to the beginning when I leave for work....so when he goes to a commercial break when I'm driving, I can fast forward all the way through the commercials and back to his program.

I also like it because I can go into a store, keep my car running, arm the car, and go inside for 1-40 minutes, come back and rewind to the same spot in a game that I was listening to.... I did it for a couple of the NCAA games the past few weeks. Never miss a second when the games are coming down to the final few minutes. Great feature on the unit. Plus many other features that I use alot too.
