I have a 97 2wd (yea I know but whatever). We use our 4runner 98% on the street and with the occasional camping trip. Well im putting on 99 tall coils in the rear and I have a 1.5" daystar spacer thats going on the front. Was wondering what would be a good shock to use with my lift setup. I don't like a firm ride and would rather have it ride softer cause I put my 3 lil boys in there. I dont have any of the lift on at all yet. I know the shocks on there are at least 8-9 years old and are not stock. I think it has rancho shocks on it, were on there when I bought it used. Anybody help me out. Thanks

would the trekmasters be the best for onroad?? i would love to hear what others have used. and this might sound dumb, but would I just get stock size shocks for a 97 2wd?? or since im putting 99 coils in rear, is there a difference in shocks for those? im under the impression that the front shock would stay the same but not 100% tho.

the bilsteins on my stock '99 ride amazing, not too stiff not too soft. i like them alot i'm swapping 'em out when i do my lift for some ome as the bilsteins will no longer fit, but your not really putting a lift on your just going to '99 stock height and my bilsteins ride great on that setup, just my experience in a stock '99 can't comment on the trekmasters they maybe equally as good but i have never ridden on them so can't comment

Tokicos are a good choice
I've had Bilsteins on my 2nd and 3rd gens and to me they were just a bit too stiff on this 99. They firmed up my old 95 and rode nicely.
For this 3rd gen with my lift I went with Old Man Emu shocks-depending on who and what you read they are either great or not even recommended -Sonoran Steel website is a wealth of info for example-I like them fine. Comfort shocks and regulars offered for bit firmer ride.
Everyone's butt is a little different... if you do that much just on the pavement the Tokicos are a great all around choice. See if the part number changes from a 98 to a 99 in response to the differing springs.
shop around and get a great price and they will feel even better...
try to sample some other Runners with their springs and shocks if you get a chance
