Hi guys
My '03 SE V8 was pulling to the right when i'd brake, and i knew that's a sign of a frozen piston on the caliper, so i nipped it in the bud and had them replaced with OEM NEW, not reman's.
I know many DIY-fans and others that believe in aftermarket stuff will have their opinions on why i didnt go another route, but believe me when i tell you that i got a HUGE break on the service from my local Toyota shop. This is the 3rd set on the rig, and I had aftermarkets on there the last 18 months and they failed. I priced new OEM calipers on partznet, and i pretty much paid the same + $78 for install. Bottom line is that my family rides/drives this Runner and their safety is something i wont gamble with.
I asked for the old calipers back, as there was no core charge and they gave them back to me. Initially when the tech inspectedthe calipers and rotors for signs of a frozen piston, he said he saw no signs of such being the case. There was no sign of excessive-heating of the rotor from the pad being stuck there, but when i drove the ride out of the shop, TAH DAH!! NO MORE PULL TO THE RIGHT!
So i have the aftermarkets in the new caliper boxes in my basement. What should i do with them? Clean and rebuild? Scrap metal?
