What speakers should I buy

Hello,

I am new here and just bought a 03 4Runner SR5. I want to replace the speakers and the CD player. I know the front speakers are 6x9 and the rears are 6.5. I have no idea what speakers and parts i need to buy sinse there is so many to choose from on Amazon that i have a gift card from. I want the speakers to sound good but dont want to brake the bank.

Can someone please help me out to and tell me what speakers and parts should i buy.

Crutchfield has an auto configuration web tool. Will tell you which speakers work with no mods. Crutchfield also throws in any adapters if necessary.

Crutchfield is great with stereos too. Wire harness usually thrown in. You probably have to purchase from Crutchfield the steering wheel adapter .

I replaced my headunit and shortly after threw in a JL c1-690 speaker set. Sounded a lot better than factory w/ upgraded headunit and was relatively cheap. Used some Tacotunes adapters to fit the tweeters and adapt the 6x9's to the Toyota mount.

I'm far from an audio expert but they seemed easy to install and sound good to me, though I might add a sub later.

Speakers are another one of those topics where you ask 10 different people and get 10 different answers… point being there is no right answer.

Shop based on price, and if possible, buy what sounds best to your own ear as we are all different and to a degree may perceive sound differently.

That said, for most people just looking for a basic speaker refresh, just stick with the moderate priced big names like Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine, Rockford Fosgate, Infinity, Polk, and many others. You can get a pretty decent set of speakers for $50 to $100 per pair.

On the flip side, buying too high end of a speaker that has a high power handling capability may actually be worse if you can’t power/amplify them correctly. If you want to power them off the headunit, the more affordable options that are a high db/sensitivity are often times more efficient because they require less power to get to the same volume.

Wattage / Power comes from the head unit. Have you selected a head unit yet? I assume you are not using an external amp? Most head units I see are usually in that 50 watts per channel area.

As I mentioned above, something high a high db/sensitivity would be of benefit. Speaker wattage isn’t as important, that just determines it’s RMS & peak power handling.

Something that had a high power handling often times will have a lower sensitivity and will require a separate amp to get the most out of it.

Just stay away from power hungry speakers and you should be fine. Higher the sensitivity is, the louder it will be given the same power.
