What Front Springs are folks using for heavy front bumpers, winches, skids, etc

What are folks running with these kind of anchors hanging off the front?

I probably have 200lbs in the winch and bumper.

I have tried TRD and Eibach coils with Tundra 5100s. The TRD's were nice riding, but did not provide much lift.

Maybe I got some dud springs, but the Eibach's were off from passenger to driver side by about 1.5".

So - I am looking for something different I suppose. 883s are what I am considering. Anyone else got any other suggestions?

881's, 1" lift sleeves get about 3" lift with 120lb up front.

What notch on the 5100s were you running the TRDs with?

If it's not enough lift, go up a notch. I run both on the third notch and have every bit of 3", if not more. I do have a winch and heavier than stock bumper as well.

881s here as well. So far so good. Haven't seen any sag. Much better ride with the extra weight then without.

Though to be honest this bumper isn't as heavy as I expected. I lifted and installed it myself. I'm not saying it's weak, but I was surprised I could do it.

Well - I ended up pulling the trigger on some used Swayaway Racerunner Coilovers that were recently rebuilt.

I'm using 883s and have about 150 lbs. It gives about 2 1/2" lift, with stock height shocks (Nitro 9000 from Wheelers). Ride is good.

Hmmm... This is the setup I was considering. I hope I didn't make a mistake by not going with it. I paid about $160 more than this setup would have cost me. I think those shocks they sell are actually standard Gabriel shocks for Tundras. I asked Wheeler's about them, and they went silent on me about them. They look EXACTLY like the Gabriels. Black with a joint like fitting on the bottom instead of bushings.

Yeah, I am aware of this option. A few members on here have blown out their 5100s this way too. The ride I was getting was already stiff enough as well. Preloading them would have only made it worse. There was also the 1.5" height difference that I was dealing with...

Not with the winch in it huh?? My bumper is over built. If I had the money, it would have been replaced a long time ago with something lighter. I'll post a pic. Between it an the pig of a winch - I am toting a lot of extra weight up there.

They are rough country shocks but I do believe Gabrielle makes them for RC. I have part numbers if you want to know lol.

881's can handle up too 100lbs. With my 90lb winch, 75lb bumper minus the weight of a stock bumper its not much over 100lb up front. Also rides a lot better, so much more soft now as was before. Not much sag so far.

Not aware of any 700lbs springs available.

I actually thought about trying some springs from 4th gen 4runners or 2nd gen Tacomas, but the guy I spoke with at OME was very cautionary about that idea. He didnt even think yo should run 883s, and he was very cautious about the idea of running 882s. So... He was not much help in that quest. I also didnt want to drop $180 on springs that I was not sure would work.

I ended up swapping the Eibach/5100 combo on to my Tacoma (it needed them anyway) with no winch and no bumper. They are great on there. Sit 3" high and ride pretty nicely.

Well. I guess I know what my problem is... The wight of my bumper. It is certainly more than 75lbs.

They are a sleeve that goes at the bottom of the coil instead of the top. It increases lift but doesnt create more droop like a top out spacer. Steve made them from sonoran steel but dont think he sells them anymore.

That was with the winch. I honestly couldn't tell you how much it weighs. CBI would sure know. Winch was 80 lbs I believe, so lets say the bumper is 70 lbs. That would equal 150 lbs. I've measured several times and haven't seen sag yet.

I may ask around to see what different manufacturers plate bumpers are weighing in at. I can tell you that I weigh 160, and I tried to weigh mine by holding it and standing on the bathroom scale. Scale wouldnt read. Maybe I was not steady enough for it (on of those finicky digital ones) but I could have been over the limit too.

I think my winch is only a little heavier, at 90lbs, but the bumper is killer. It is on the to do list, I just don't have the cash to do the suspension and the bumper at this point. Bumper will have to ride the Christmas list for now.

Then you need to minus the stock bumper and brackets which come close to 40lbs.

So you didn't answer the question about what notch you were on with the 5100s. Also, were the Tacoma or Tundra versions?

Not sure what you mean about people blowing them out. If anything you're making it more difficult to bottom them out, which would be the source of blowing out a shock.

I believe they are on the first notch of Tundras.

I'll see if I can find the thread I was reading. Regardless of the damage issue, I did not change the setting because (1) the there was still the issue of them being unlevel and (2) I did not want to preload them.
