What tires should I get?

So you want larger tires? Are you going to go with an AT or MT?

They are 7.5 inches wide so it kind of limits you from too much wider or bigger of a tire. I have a set of 275 and 285's in the BFG AT's and not much of a difference sight wise if you ask me. 305's are noticeably wider!
I have 305/65/17's in the BFG MT's and they make them in AT's that size too.They are big and wide but get pretty sh*tty gas mileage.Great offroad though.
But my Mojave rims are 8 inches wide and 8.5 is recommended for 305's and 7.5 of the TE rims would be pushing it in my opinion. Makes it more of a chance of your tire coming off when under pressure and your wheelin.
You could sell your TE rims for about the same or more then wider aftermarket rims cost......
When you get into the 285/70/17 and 305/70/17 sizes you are looking at 'D' load range tires ("8-ply") and they will affect how it drives. The tires will be heavier and stiffer and being unsprung weight will affect your available power etc.. I ran 305/70/17 BFG ATs on my '06 Ram MegaCab 4x4 (which came stock with 'E' load range 265/70/17s) with a 5.7l Hemi and 4:10 ratio axles and noticed quite a difference. Some people wont like it, some wont mind at all.

My plan is to keep the stock rims for a while at least and running BFG AT.
I was thinking about selling the current size tires and getting the recommended 285/70/17 that everyone is running.
The problem might be that I don't have sliders yet, which is also makes the truck look incomplete.

16s won't fit on the 5th gens, but those are some good lookin wheels.

Thanks that is really good to know for my 5th Gen.
I persuaded the dealer to install Firestone Destination A/Ts on my 2010 Trail in lieu of the poorly rated Dunlop tires that came on it. I've had the Destinations on my 05 Nissan Frontier Nismo since May and they have done well both on and off-road. Took it through some of the toughest roads in the GW National Forest as a test. On the Trail, I'm getting 18 to 20 mpg with the Destinations with mostly highway driving and only 600 miles on the truck. Heading to Maine's Great North Woods in a few weeks and expect the Destinations as well as the Trail to get tested.
