What to buy first??

I"m sitting here waiting for my 4runner thats being delivered tomorrow and contemplating on what I Should do first. Lift front or rear bumpers or sliders? It has brand new tires which is bad because I wanted to put on some 255/85-16 when i lifted it. How will the truck look w a lift and stock tires? Funny right. Sorry just thinking out loud.

Here is the order I think is best, but it is your truck.
1. Lift- most helpfull off road(bang for the buck) I also wheeled with stock all season's for 7 months

2. Rock Sliders- one of the most important and least expensive pieces of Armor.
3. Then bumpers- I went rear first since factory tow hitch kept getting hung up on mine, but a lot of people do the front bumper only.

i got the lift first cuz i needed suspension then tires when they were needed, but if i were to do it all over again, i would do it in this order
1 locker
2 sliders/bumpers
3 lift/tires

I found it doesnt matter how good of traction you have with new tires, if one is in the air flexed out on a rock you still have zero traction. I was going to wait a long time before i got a locker but after a trip i did about a month ago it has moved right up to number one.

Thanks for the info. I'm in luck mine has a factory rear locker. I've seen many sliders on the forum and I think I'm going to get a set of stubbs with the rear kickout. I'm going to run the bumper question by my friend that is fabricator. If he can build them I will let. Good winter project.

I built my own rear bumper and it was fun but took forever since my schedule never matched my friends schedule that had the welder. CBI just came out with a rear bumper for our trucks that should be in the $650 range and looks really nice. I would search for bumper designs print out a couple you like and then take them to your friend and come up with what you like best of each one and build from there. What year is your 4runner? Reason I ask is you may not need much of a lift at all. I was planning on lifting my '99 but now that I've wheeled it a few times I don't think it needs one. I'd like to be able to level out the back as it does sag a bit, but other than that, I'm happy with the suspension and running 265/75/16s it seems to have plenty of travel.

I think the first thing you need to do is pull off the running boards if you haven't already!

I've seen pictures of the CBI and actually called and talked to the gentleman about it. The only downfall is that you have to remove the spare from underneath the vehicle. I don't want a carrier on back and not too comfortable leaving it in the garage. So maybe I could have my friend build one kind of like that but with enough room for the spare.

When I built mine I made it so I could fit up to a 33" spare underneath however I did put a tire carrier on my bumper. If I got a second spare for a longer excursion I would have room underneath. Although future plans might call for my 2.5gal air tank to be mounted in the factory spare location. Since i wasnt fortunate enough to get one with factory locker and plan on running an ARB locker.

I guess when I build mine I'll leave the spare and basically build around it. haha. That will get rid of the receiver hitch too. Can't wait to start building. I just picked it up!!! A little smaller than the lifted titan I just had!!
