What to consider when increasing tire size?

I've been reading many postings about the subject but yet I haven't gotten a straight answer.

So ... I'm posting my questions here in the hopes that someone might answer them all

BTW... I got a 04' SR5 with 16" rims.

1. What do I have to consider when going to bigger rim (17 or 18)? Do I have to replace rotors and calipers? Does anything else have to be replaced?

2) Why does the '09 trail edition comes with P265/70R16 tires? are 16" rims better for trails? (yes... I'm a noob and don't know any better)

1. You do not have to go with larger rotors and calipers. If you do go with a larger wheel and tire setup and down the road you replace your rotors and have the itch, you can upgrade to the Sport Edition calipers and discs since they're slightly larger.

2. 16" wheels have more tire choices when it comes to offroad selection. Are they better? For the hardcore wheeler, yes they are, as they have more sidewall to flex and absorb impacts.

:iagree: On #2 I would add not only is the selection bigger they're cheaper too...

Thank you both for the reply + advice.

I'm mainly curious. My ride has all stock equipment and I'm thinking that increasing the tires size by a little bit (No chrome, no 20 nothing, etc) just to make it look a little more menacing.

Will consider upgrading soon since the stock tires have about 53K miles on it and will need a change before next winter.
