I would say lift...but that's gonna lead to wanting beefier tires, then wheels, and in the end you'll spend way more than $1000...LOL

LOL this is true. Well i have a new job making alot more than what i did so i might have more than $1000. but i know i have that for sure.

IMO i would either save for lift tires and rims, or do tint, exhaust, full intake, not sure if you have a hood scoop if not do that as well and youll probably be pretty close to $1000, again that IMO

I would wait on that 1000 and see what she needs. I just recently bought a 2000 and have spent a good deal of money just base-lining the fluids, replacing wiper blades, undercoat, etc etc. Just enjoy the ride for another month or so and see what it needs for the way you use it

How about making sure the belts and the radiator are replaced so you can just put the key in the ignition and start up without worries. That seems like the responsible thing to do.

Definitely some good advice here. I know, even though it would be great to get a mod or two in with that type of cash.

I would get some mud flaps($40 tops), tint match the front windows($95 is common price around here), and do every bit of preventative maintenance I could.

Check out Toyota Owners - Official Toyota Owners Website and see if there are any maintenance records on there.

Ok guys i am a Toyota Mechanic i have already replaced my timing, and all acc. belts, water pump, i put a new radiator in and tranny cooler in the front, and also changed every fluid there is on the truck. I also put new front and rear brakes on including rotors and such. My tuck has everything done with it that i can do to it. i am not putting mud flaps on it becuase i like to fling mud everywhere im taking the rear mud flaps off. i will probably get tint though didnt really think about that and maybe some interior thing like a good sound system. so other than all the preventative maintenance things. What do you think i should do first? Working at a Toyota Dealer when i first bought her i did everything to prevent all those bad things to happen. So if anybody needs any help lwith any thing you can pm me what you need and ill find out for. Thanks

You have a truck that is fully capable of most things stock and will last for a good while.

I'd bank it. Boring, but there's no better feeling than knowing you have something to fall back on.

I just purchased mine also. My first 1000 is all maintenance items. Transmission cooler, filter change, and flush. Timing belt, water pump oil seals. drive belts, brake flush. All the likely, neglected maintenance items. They deffinately add up quick plugs and wires were like 80 I think.

This is true i might just do that. But yea its boring. LOL

i have done everything possible and i mean everything. I did plugs wires every oil seal belts water pump tranny cooler fluid change and radiator for under $900 but i work for a Toyota Dealer so i get it pretty cheap.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Tundra brake upgrade. You can do the 199mm on stock wheels, and it's only about $300.

You could also do wheels and/or tires first, then lift it when you have more money. I can't remember what the largest tires that will fit on stock are though.

You could do a lift, but you wouldn't have enough left for new tires unless you just got new springs, and I'm not sure how well that would work with stock shocks.

It's hard to recommend things though without knowing what you want to do. I think your best bet would be the Tundra brakes and bank the rest, or just bank the whole thing.

Thanks Geolander, i may go ahead with the tundra brakes i forgot about that lol. I would like to make into a a good trail rig. it is not locked or anything yet. i do want to lift and new tires and rims, sliders front and rear bumpers but im going to fab those myself, and lock it front and rear. oh and this is my daily driver.

I would do the tundra brakes, then start with armor if you want to make it more trail worthy. Check out skid row, budbuilt, lil skip's.

I feel like unless you are doing rock crawling, you are going to break it first by hitting stuff on the underside. Both armor and a lift help with that, so I'd say either is a good start.

Front bumper and winch would be another good option.

As previously touched on, read up the FAQ, Buyers guide ect.

You'll want to make sure you do a transmission cooler or radiator swap. Very good investment to make sure you don't kaboom your trans.

You could upgrade your brakes to Tundra setup, roughly $300 for new calipers and rotors.

Balljoints, Tie-Rod ends - thats almost another $300. Some hoses, belts... your $1,000 is gone.

Performance wise you can try out the intake and airbox mod using a deck-plate.

id armor it like nelson said... sure you can lift it but that wont keep it from getting damaged, in fact i tend to think it will be more of a contributing factor to body damage cause you will be tempted to try harder stuff once you are lifted. i have no lift and am running 285s(yes they rub a bit) and have full armor(minus the bumpers right now) and i say its the best investment ive made so far, sure i might not have the height to clear some stuff but what i cant clear i can safely slid/skid over and be just fine... so if you ask me ARMOR is number 1.

Why don't you go ahead and get the front and rear lockers.
You can camp out and be patient and get a rear E-locker for $400-600 and an Aussie front locker for around $300. I'd rather do those now than waiting till later since you want a trail rig.

I had about $800 to spend and have been sitting on it for a few months now waiting untill the parts I wanted surfaced. In the last week I have found a new in box TRD exhaust, New OBX headers, and A340 IPT valve body upgrade all for $835. And I picked up a set of land cruiser 8 wrap rear coils for $30 as well :)

Last year when I bought my truck under the idea of blowing it, I imeediately began looking.
I found my supercharger for $750, bought the URD 7th Fuel upgrade kit and other miscelaneous pulleys, and now have my VB upgrade and full exhaust. It is an awesome feeling putting out 300hp.

Oh and in the midst of all that, I found a 4runner part out where I snagged the complete rear end with E locker as well as the front diff with 4:30 gears to be able to handle 33s no problem. All for $450. I was very patient and hunted for all my parts daily until I found them.
