what to do to exhaust get the deepest sound?

Basically the responses you're going to get are all going to be someone's personal opinion. All I did was look on youtube and see which one I thought sounded the best.

And you guys stop hatin on the flowmasters!

I've heard good about Magnaflow on Toyota pickups, my brother has one too. It sounds good on the 22RE.

I also haven't heard about good manufacturing quality with Flowmaster or Borla...

With all respect, I think the cherry bomb systems sound like the car has flatulence.... just like, all quiet, then BOOORPPPP!

So much hate.

Flowmasters quality is pretty good.

The Vortex sounds nothing like that.

I would not base my opinion on what I hear on youtube. People's cameras do not pick up noises very well.
 
Flows

I had a Flowmaster 40 Series on my 3rd Gen and It sounded great. I left the cat intact and just added the 40 series and a tip on the single pipe. BEWARE: Having an after market muffler under a T4R isnt like putting one under a truck. I had alot of interior noise with the flow. It even seemed to mess with the clarity of my subwoofers depending on what frequency the muffler and sub were hitting on. I dont know if anyone else had had this problem or not. The 40 series had some balls and sounded great, FoSheezy can a test to that. Check youtube as others have suggested, but the flowmaster was a good muffler with great sound.
 
Part numbers

Can anybody tell me the part numbers of the Magnaflow/Flowmaster exhaust systems that they have installed?

Also, can anybody comment on the ease of installation if they did the work on their own?

I have a magna flow muffler, and have never had it mess with any sound from my subs. And ill agree that you do get more cab noise with an after market muffler. It sounds way good with all the windows down :)


As for video clips go onto the actuall companies websites. I know magna flow has clips of toyotas.

And for the part number for my magna flow... I have no clue because it was installed at a shop. if I remember it was a 1400 series or something. Not shure at all tho.

x2, from the YouTube videos I watched, the Flowmaster 40 Series sounded the best!
 
hey all noob here. if im not too late check out spintech. it sounds like a cheap name and a cheap web site but man it sounds amazing! i think there is a you tube video of a guy who has one on his 4runner. i have one on mine and love it! very low and gurgly. check it out

+1 on everything above, except that I really don't notice any exhaust drone. I think its the perfect compromise for an aftermarket muffler - you know its there, but its not too overbearing...on a vehicle that isn't supposed to be that loud & obnoxious.

Just my $.02.
 
i had a custom cat back dual exhaust on my 99 4runner with a cherrybomb vortex muffler and it sounded really good. i got alot of complements but unfortunatly the shop i went to to have it done did a hack job on it and the exhaust system clunked and rattled when i drove around so i took it off.

my buddy has a flowmaster 50 series on his 01 tacoma and it has a more mellow tone, not a low tone tho.

Yea, I just LOVE the Vortex muffler. I have it on my own truck, for over 5+ years now, and love it. Everyone thinks it's a V8. Super deep low tone.

magnaflow on my rig, and i cant tell you how many times people mistake it for a borla. little bit of drone, but nothing that gets to me. and i havent had any interference problems with my subs or anything along those lines. plus the whole install with the muffler was like, $140, only because i dont want to spend the money on a mig welder...... yet :p

Hey buddy! I remember cruising out to Aladdin's with you in the rig. Nice, deep sound.

I did notice the drone though... the reason I LOVE having the intake mods I did vs. the K&N intake was the lack of any sort of difference unless I really get on the throttle. It's hard to have the best of both worlds, though. And that youtube video that Burtman has up on his website sold it for me. Plus, if Jason Burtman - 4Runner parts extraordinaire - chose the cherry bomb (I can only assume he's tried at least half of the product he sells on his site) it can't be half bad. :D
 
It's not that the Cherrybomb is the only muffler that interferes with subs. I would think that almost any aftermarket muffler would interfere too, it just has to hit the right frequency at the right time.

Turned out to be too loud and I actually ended up getting a few comments about my car being a rice rocket.

In addition, the Vortex is relatively cheap. $100 plus install ended me up at about $250. I also threw away my factory muffler that was removed.

After about a year of the loudness i realized I didnt want the muffler on there any more. Turns out it runs about $850 to replace the exhaust system back to factory components.

So now im running some generic muffler with big pipes and its rather rice rocket-ish. Ill be getting the big pipes removed this week and if it doesn't quiet down im gonna shoot myself.

3rd Gen 4Runners are V6s....whats the point in trying to make them sound like V8s?

Was it the larger tubes that made it sound rice-ish? If not we have a problem here.

You are saying yours was rice-ish, but we have a video of Jason's and it sounds pretty good. Maybe you could listen to his and see if that's what yours sounded like.

I got my Vortex for $100 installed and kept my stock muffler. I guess I got lucky.
