What to get?... SE or Limited?

First post. Been lurking for a month now.
Well, I went to 3 dealers today, Bob Smith in La Crescenta, Glendale Toyota, and Longo... Bob Smith and Glendale had no Limiteds, Longo only had a few but the options I wanted wasn't in stock... ('07 Limited V8 4x4 Shadow Mica fully loaded w/ Xreas without the entertainment package)
Anyways, I really like the SE tube style running boards, roof rack and hood scoop, but like the amenties in the Limited along with color keyed accents, leather, and Navi...
So which do I get?
All dealers said that my I would be better off special odering because hardly any are dealer ordered the way I want (at least not in So. Cal.). But the order would take 3-4 months. I have to turn in my lease in September and that is about the same time when the '08's would be released. What to do?

BTW, my future mods are...
Jaos grill guard (maybe skid plate)
Jaos rear bumper guard
Tal & Hada rear light guards
air intake and exhaust (don't know which brand yet. Had a Borla on my '92 4Runner 4x4)
1-2" lift (prefer suspension lift over body lift... I belive it is possible with the Xreas, right?)
wishing for (reliable) supercharger

That is a tough decision because you like certain features that are exclusive to each trim. I would first look at the price difference between each truck. If you liked all of the exterior features on the sport, you can always add aftermarket leather and nav. You would be getting XREAS standard on the sport as well. You can't go wrong with either trim!

I was thinking the opposite... get the limited and get the tube steps and rack... but is it possible to switch out the regular roof rack and running board with the tube ones? Anyone in this forum do it as a mod?
 
I think you'll find that it's impossible to get a Limited with the XREAS suspension. I tried dealerships in CA, NV, AZ, UT, NM, CO, noone had not even one. Then, I went and test drove a 4runner with and another without XREAS, and for me, I decided I didn't have to have it. Now that I'm thinking of getting a lift, I'm glad I didn't get XREAS, somewhat better ride that it seemed to be.

So, I think if you want a Limited with XREAS, you are going to have to special order. Why not go test drive one with and without, and see what you think!

I am not sure how tough it would be to switch those items around, but just be aware that the running boards on the limited are illuminated. When you unlock the truck or open a door, there are two lights that go on.
 
I'd go for the Sport as well. They look the best to me. Just add your own leather and NAV. Also, I think you can swap out the chrome grill with a limited grill pretty easily if the chrome is a turnoff to you.
 
SPORT !!!

I dont like leather, the 18" wheels.

I do like the Xreas on the Sport , the hood scoop , wheels , int. , pretty much everything about it , except >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>I wish I had the Nav. system , rear air leveling suspension, better tunes ( I have the option code "DJ" stereo with 6 disk MP3,WMA , 6 speaker system).

hehe, figured you all would say "Sport" from the poll that's been running somewhere in this forum. Well, I've got some time to think about it cuz my lease isn't up for a few months. Maybe someone here will have an answer as to getting the tube stuff fitted to a limited. :D
 
I would go with the sport, but not the limited. Theres just to much crap you dont need, I got the most basic SR5 only 4WD and 17inch rims, and its been great to me.
 
You have to determine what type of driving you are going to do. If you are going to spend 90% of your diving on the pavement then you can't beat the Limited. If you're going to be off-roading on a regular basis you may want the SR5. If you plan on half and half you may want the Sport and pull the XREAS. I can tell you that I am so glad I got the Limited. The Limited is kind of like in a class of its own. When it comes to luxury, comfort, and all the conveniences, the Limited is right up there with the GX470.

If he wants that small of a lift he cant do a spring spacer lift. Its up to him I guess.

The limiteds are great , just to much stuff I dont need , and a few thing I would like .....lol

If all you wanted was a lift for bigger tires and intermediate off roading, yes you could leave them in. If you are going to off-road majority of the time you would need to change the XREAS shocks.

Personally I found the Limited's adj rear air susp-W/XREAS to work very well off road. It lifted the rear over 4" above the stock height.

Personal Choice

No bad choices here. It's a personal decision based on what you want, what kind of deal you can get, availability, and how much you want to pay.

I like the leather seating as well as the heated seat option. You can get these installed aftermarket on the Sport model. (We do a lot of outdoor activities with the kids and the leather is easier to clean).

When I bought my 2004 it was nearly impossible to get a Limited without XREAS. Now (in my region) it's hard to get a 2007 Limited model with it. I do not intend to get a lift and felt the XREAS made a big difference in the handling. I might be more apt to get a Sport model if that was the only way I cold get XREAS.

I like the factory nav with backup camera - but you could get these installed aftermarket as well.

One thing I did want and have are the driver and front passenger front seat-mounted side airbags and front- and second-row roll-sensing side curtain airbags (RSCA) with cutoff switch. This may or may not be available on a Sport model in your area.

Rear Height Control Air Suspension is a nice option, although only available on V8 models. This is packaged with XREAS on Limited models but is hard to find in my region this year.

I agree with a previous poster re. 18" wheels. I would rather have 17" models on my 4Runner.

IMO running board are useless and get in the way when I go off-road. I would rather have the tube steps they are using on the Sport models these days. Then again, I would rather have heavier duty nerf bars than either option.

When I was first looking I was considering the GX but felt I was getting most of what I wanted on the 4Runner Limited so it also depends on where you are coming from as well.

Again, no bad choices with any 4Runner.
 
I have the limited and although I don't regret it, if I could do it over again, I'd do without a few options (leather especially) and save a few bucks. I use it a lot for outdoor activities and I always worry about getting my leather messed up.
 
I got a Sport Edition because I like the rims better and I love the looks of the hoodscoop!! The XREAS suspension is nice too.

Can't go wrong with either the Sport Edition or Limited. When I was in the market for the 4Runner in summer '05, I was considering the Sport Edition for all the extra standard features over the SR5. Then I saw the updates for the '06 and some of extras that was added to the '06 Limited, memory seats and 18" wheels, I sprung for the Limited. One thing to keep in mind, the stock 18" tire size is very limited in tire selection, 17" has more and 16" has the most.

You can't go wrong with either, depending on what you like more luxury features (Limited) or the more sporty look (SE) and standard X-REAS. Each trim has exclusive features that make it unique. It would be nice if they combined the features of both the SE and Limited and called it maybe the Ultimate Edition. I know I'll get that one that offered features of both trims.
