What to know when buying a 4 runner?

Hey fellas, Im looking to purchase a used 4 runner and have a question or 2. 1st off Im looking at 05 to 08 models and anything that has less that 100k miles on it. Is there any specific things I need to be aware of? Is there any specific options that I need to keep an eye out for? And with looking at something with higher miles .. what is to high of mileage.... Im assuming with it being a toyota 100k miles shouldnt be a concern... Any help would be appreciated...

If its a V8 make sure the timing belt has been changed along with the water pump. Mine was done at the dealer and they put a sticker on the engine stating the mileage it was completed at.

06' has the new body updates. LED tail light, projector headlights, body updates. I just bought my 06' a month ago, it has 50k miles on it. I wanted a sport or limited for the x-res suspension and painted mirrors, etc. The limiteds seem to have a much higher price thats not worth the main difference which is the leather. I had the dealer add leather in my sport when I bought the truck.

Wow... 05 to 06 theres a huge difference.... did not know that... Ill be looking into a v6 btw.. getting rid of my v8 gonna try to save a little on gas...

What about wheels... I see alot of the 4 runners on here have stock wheels... Is there an issue with putting aftermarket wheels on them.. Id probably be looking to keep factory tires sizes, just different wheels...

Yeah there is a big difference between 05 and 06. Stock tire size with the 17's are 265/65R17. I love the limited rims, which are 18" for the 06 and newer. I have the sport rims that are 17's. I'm going to keep but get bigger tires when I lift it.

Have found a few with almost 100k on them.. While looking at the pathfinders I came across the common transmission problems... Is there anything with the 4Runners that is a common defect. The higher mileage ones seem to be alot cheaper. I plan on getting an extended warranty with whatever I get but Id like to be aware of any known issues...

I'm in the same boat. Traded in my wrangler (having a baby) for an 07 with 115k I wouldn't suspect any faults/defects. I have the same question! What is the first stuff to wear out/break?On road use only? BTW just joined first post
