What to take to bed with you

Put your car keys beside your bed at night

If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies.

This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator. Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this:
It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation.
Test it.
It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key fob.
It works if you park in your driveway or garage. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, odds are the burglar/rapist won't stick around.

After a few seconds all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that.

And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there.

If I hear someone trying to get into my home, I'll chamber a round of 00 Buck into my 12 gauge :ak472: :p

The car remote is a good idea provided it has enough range. And I think it's great if you have a peaceful resolution to a situation that might otherwise incite violence.

i'd probably reach for my bark river bravo-2 or sog tech bowie thats near the bed.

That's a great tip. I will have to remember to grab my key fob with my right hand. My left hand would be occupied by the .45 within reach of my bed.

Too late my house already has an alarm. Plus, with my 4R in the garage-- i doubt if my neighbors could hear that much. If they do, they think it's me messing around with my 4R. lol Thanks for the tip tho. I can use that tip if i spend a night at friends and family.

I am just the opposite....key fob in the left hand, .45 in the right.

Key fob by the bed, pretty good idea!

Damn, what's with all the guns? In most states, you can't even point a gun at someone trying to steal stuff in your garage. Even if you caught him in the garage and you suspected he was going to enter the house, you couldn't prove it in court. If you don't even have a castle law in your state, forget the gun.

And even if they enter the house, you can't kill them without knowing they are there to injure you. If you kill an intruder and he has no weapon, you're going to prison. At least that's how it is in Virginia.

Cool. I might as well go to your house without a weapon and you can watch me eat some of your food, use the bathroom, take a shower, watch tv, turn on the stereo, go thru your stuff and other things you don't want to hear AS LONG AS I DON'T INJURE anyone; and you can't kill me. ;):

come on down to my house, my dobes would love to chew on you. don't need no gun. by the time they finished with your ass,you would rather have me fill your ass with buck shot.

There's the problem. It has some of the worst gun laws in the country. When I went through the concealed weapons course in FL, they showed us the laws as it relates to usage, and it was nothing like what you described.

Hell, here in Iowa, many of my friends shoot off their porch for fun.:pimp:

...but this was about key fobs...

Thanks for the warning. I'll bring my dog and you and i can watch some dogfight. Maybe we can bet who will win. Remember to push your fob alarm on your 4R so the neighborhood can't hear them.
:lmao:

I do the opposite, my remote is two way, I keep it by my bed so it wakes me up when someone is messing with my truck outside...

That would be a good name for a movie..

The Key Fob or the Castle Doctrine.:naughty:

That key fob setting off the horn really is a good idea if your car was parked outside or you were out in a public place. I keep my baby parked in the garage so if somebody is in there that I don't know that would help.

My Dobie would warn them and me first anyways so the Mossberg 12 gauge or Glock hopefully would'nt be neccesary. She's here to save their life. If they don't listen to her warning or hurt her, then God help them if they have broken into my house!:hunter:

That's "Abra Redcadabra"(Abby)the on the left with her father and sister when she was a pup .She's about 85 lbs. now and will turn 3 in June. I've owned Dobermans for 25 years now or should I say they've owned me!

No. It's not as long you don't injure someone, it's if it appears that the intruders intent is to injure someone. For example, If you see a 14 year old in your garage stealing your bike, you cannot even point a gun at him. If someone is doing what you describe, then I suppose you can open fire on him. But SWAT would be there in 2 minutes so I personally would take it easy and avoid being put on trial. Unless it appears he's a threat. Once again, someone messing around in the garage is not a threat.

Also, if the situation you described happens, you really need to learn to lock your doors.
