:funny how everyone's quick to brag about what type of guns they're ready to shoot intruders with. i've got a couple that sit on my bedstand ready to rock if i need to protect my family, but im not gonna take part in the 'whose gauge/e-peen is bigger' contest. ive also got an 'attack dog' thatll probably show him where we keep the valuables.
anyways - as i understand it, there are two types of castle doctrines. where i live, if i wake up to a noise at night and theres a guy standing in my kitchen, i could argue that just being in my home without my permission is an attack against me, and i can respond with force. i believe in other versions of the doctrine there has to be an actual attack. now, im not saying you cant shoot first and make up a story later if you wind up in legal trouble, its your word against the newly deceased.
either way, before you get an itchy trigger finger, id familiarize yourself with your state laws.

This is why you keep a sanitized throw-away revolver or knife around the house, so you can put it in the dead perp's hand before the cops get there.
Technically though, you are allowed to defend you life and/or your property - they don't have to just threaten your life before you can respond with possibly lethal force. I can tell you this, I am going to meet you with a firearm if you break into my house, regardless of whether you are there to "injure" me or not, whether you're armed or not. You've committed trespassing and breaking & entering up to that point, I am not going to give you the opportunity to add aggravated assault, assault with a deadly weapon and/or murder to your list of charges before you find a laser dot in the center of mass...you'd have a few seconds to decide: instant death penalty or taking your chances with the trespassing and B&E charges once the cops get there...since ADT called them for me the instant you broke in.

If I had a gun, I would do the same.
If you haven't seen it yet watch the beginning of the movie "Felon". Its pretty good. It was the first thing i thought of when i seen this thread.

I think the key fob panic alarm is a good idea, in addition to using whatever force necessary to defend one's self. Sounding the alarm would probably distract and startle the intruder, giving you a possible tactical edge in approaching the threat. Also, just as a side note for those trying to justify or not justify the castle law, and this is your criminal justice lesson for the day, ....., that law did not originate with right-wing conservative gun-toters, not even our founding fathers, not even old English law. If you have a Bible, look at Exodus chapter 22, verse 2: "If a thief is caught breaking in and is struck so that he dies, the defender is not guilty of bloodshed; but if it happens after sunrise, he is guilty of bloodshed." In other words, the presumption is that if one breaks in between sunset and sunrise, they have ill intentions, and deadly force is justified, ....., according to the Bible. So I guess you can consider that your Bible study lessson for the day as well.

I take nothing to bed with me (either it's boxers or nothing). hehe....
My house is in the middle of the neighborhood. With all the other nicer houses around me, the chances of my house to get broken into is slim. Plus my house is alarmed (doors, windows, and motion detectors). Once that alarm goes off, i bet it'll wake up the whole neighborhood :lol: and give me time to lock-n'-load. :wink2:
