On a typical wheeling day what tools do you carry and why?

I just picked up a small 19 pc metric socket set at Lowe's (father's day sale ftw) and a small 19 inch tool box for carrying tools with me when I'm out on the trail.

So what do you carry for when :happens:

I carry:

Metric socket set (up to 21mm)
Metric ratcheting wrenches (because I'm lazy)
2 crescent wrenches
multi screwdriver
file set
pliers (regular, needle nose, and angled needle nose)
socket adapters and universal joints
34mm (?) hub socket (whatever one it is that fits)
torques bit assortment
allen wrench assortment (both metric and sae)
multi wrench with magnet
magnet
magnetic parts tray (small)
mirror
multi tester
large hammer
vise grips (small and large)
channel locks
c clamp
2" ratchet strap
ratcheting tie down
zip ties
tarp
tire repair kit
spare fluids (enough to change all oils in the truck)
spare alternator
spare CV axle
axle seal puller (cuz its a PITA if you don't have one)
assorted extra grade 8 bolts
welding rods
jumper cables
electrical connectors and tape
measuring tape (small)
razor blades
wire strippers

headlamp (specifically for tool kit)

flask with hard liquor
a little Mike Troung to keep in my pocket in case my truck breaks down :)

If all else fails I always have duct tape and lots of 550 Cord.

Would probably carry a lot more if it's more than just a day trip.

I carry about 90% of this stuff and a set of pickle forks. I've always had either OBA or Co2 so I also carry an impact and a die grinder/cutoff tool. The die grinder came in real handy on John Bull one afternoon as well as the pickle forks.
Surprisingly, all the tools fit in a fairly small bag. The fluids. zip ties, bungee's, and nut's and bolts as well as other misc. crap are in a plastic tub that is ready whenever I am. I don't carry enough fluids to change everything, but I do carry coolant, oil, gear oil, and tranny fluid.
I usually have a bunch of lunch meat, a loaf of bread, and a bottle of musta*d to keep me alive. <--- Why can't we say mustar_d???

I know this thread is about tools, but I think it's always a good idea to remember a first aid kit, and strap, and extra clothing as you never know what or when "it" can happen.
Finally the most important... sh*t paper:toilet: Because :happens:
 
I carry a snap on 3 droor road chest with some screwdrivers, metric and standard wrenches up to 1", metric and standard sockets, 3/8" and 1/4", 3 different sized shop hammers, vice grips, assortment of pliers, and punches.

Also I carry a Snap On 1/2" drive 18v impact wrench with metric impact sockets shallow and deep, and a milwaukee 3/8" 12v impact for small stuff.

and a 3ft. 1/2" breaker bar and a 12" 3/8" breaker bar and some other random tools for a just in case scenario.

What are y'all's strategies for not having your tools act like a giant maraca when you hit bumps?

I had a HD 3-drawer tool box in the back, and the tools just bang around when I go over bumps, especially speed bumps unless I crawl over them at about 2mph. And I do have rubber liners in the drawers.

Mine are in a heavy duty bag that I got from some Makita crap many years ago and is pretty well stuffed so I really don't hear em. My tools are far from organized in the bag, but I can fit a ton of them in there. I also have a flat tool case full of basic sockets and wrenches that I got from Sams Club that stays in the car at all times.

My sockets and such are in a case with the foam insert. For my other things I try to keep them divided up among my various other softer supplies .

I don't have quite enough tools yet, though, so I'm still using my wiggle room.

The trickiest was my torque wrench, which I inserted a map over so that it doesn't constantly ting.

I can't stand any noises, though, because I can't hear other serious noises if they are occurring.
 
i use a bag as well. no tool noise. and you can stuff things in there that a rigid plastic/metal toolbox cant fit.

duct tape
3 shackles

the list goes on. this is stuff leave in the truck in a large cargo box. I also always have a cv joint and tie rod ends inner and outer. i never take my tools out.

I use a tool roll for the big stuff... no rattling because everything has its own pouch. For the other stuff, I use a small canvas bag that I picked up at Home Depot. The trick is to use soft bags and make sure that they are stuffed full.

I bring 10 gallons minimum.
