What Wire Should I Use?

I bought a 3100 watt amp and two 1200 watt subs what wire should i use, do i need wire rated for 3100 watts...?

Are you talking RMS or peak? What did you get?

It's probably peak or max. No offense to you, but if that was RMS, I would think you would know what size wire to use.

I would go with 1/0 gague. This will hold up well with that current.

Im sorry, I thought i said what it was... 3100 is the peak power i don't know what gauge i should use because I couldn't figure out what the RMS was...

What is the make and model of your amp ? Man thats a lot of wattage .

Just use 1/0. You can't go wrong with that.

chances are its a legacy....i have a REAL 2000w rms amp and i run a 2awg JL kit with no probs...also fits perfect through firewall and through rest of 03+ 4runners

The manual should tell you what gauge wire you should use. If you dont' have it perhaps you can find one online.

Too small a wire could cause bad sound or amp failure.

I got the amp and it said to to use 8 gauge wire or better... so i bought the rockford fosgate wire kit (it had everything) from bestbuy, it is 6 gauge wire and then it goes to 8 gauge wire from the amp to the sub... it sounds great... everything is made by Lanzar... bought it off overstock.com and have a new HU coming in... unfortunatly put on backorder made by dual with touchscreen, DVD, HD radio, bluetooth, and ipod USB imput...

yea the subs and amp are going to last but for the HU, $212 is a good deal

What was the price? What do you want it to do? Do you need a wiring harness also?

Stick with a major brand, imo. I always go with Pioneer for HU.
