What would you do in this situation??

I just picked up my '06 Sport Edition w/50K miles this weekend and I ponied up the extra $500 for it to be Toyota Certified. This gave me a 3 month, 3K mile comprehensive warranty and power train up to 100K miles. It also has a $50 deductible anytime I need to fix anything.

Here's my dilemma: For an extra $663 I have the option to upgrade to the 7 Yr./100K mile Toyota Platinum comprehensive warranty which has no deductible. It's hard for me to part with my cash and I bought a Toyota for it's reliability but do you think this would be a worthwhile upgrade? I figure that they wouldn't sell it if they weren't making money on it but I also began to think that even minor repairs could easily exceed $663. I'm also very mechanically inclined and not afraid to wrench on anything but I know that Toyota parts are expensive.

Any input would be appreciated!

My dad is a certified master mechanic and he always buys the extended warranties. I'd just get it because if that transmission were to go out (not likely) it would cost you ~$4,000 to get it replaced if it wasn't under warranty.

I've never had anything fail on my 4Runners, and I put over 200,000 miles on my 98, so I guess its a tough call, but at least you have a comfort zone if you get it.

Thanks for the reply! I'm already covered under power train until 100K. Is it the power train I should worry about or the smaller electrical and auxiliary components which I would have to get the Platinum Warranty to cover?

See my sig for all my previous and current Toyotas. In all those miles, I've never needed any kind of repair that would have benefited from an extended warranty.

IMO, save your money.
