What would you do?

ok, here's the deal. I am a big 4Runner guy but had some stuff happen (not wise decisions) :ybrick: and ended up buying a 05 Subaru Outback without selling my 03 4R first. Shortly after buying the OB I realized that while it was a great car (and truly sexy IMHO) it just wasn't the car for me. Long story short, I ended up getting selling the 4Runner and being stuck with the OB. I wanted a SUV back badly and traded the OB in on my current 00 Lexus LX470. The LX is a great truck but still it's not my 03 4R, I really miss something about it and have been considering trading in the LX. Question to y'all is what would you do? I have two possibilities, but torn cause the Lex is so great.

How long have you had the Lexus? Maybe you just need to give it some time to make it yours. Do some mod's. Let it grow on you. Personally I would wait a while but then again I am very methodical and deliberate in my decision making. I’ll pass up a good deal before being rushed into a buying decision.

Seems like the Lexus models hold their value pretty well. I am sure a year from now you will get a similar amount out of the Lexus and can get another 4Runner if you still want to.

They are pretty similar vehicles. I don't think it will hurt to give the Lexus more time. You may find somebody who is dying to get one and get a little more out of it, or you may find a 4Runner that is an absolute steal and be able to get more out of the bargain. Does that make sense?

I drove an FJ for a couple of years and really loved it, but couldn't part with it because I loved it so much. The problem was that my kids hated getting in the back seat and I was overextended on what I was paying. I kept it though because I just knew that when it was time to sell it, things would work out better. Ultimately that's exactly what happened. I sold it to a family friend who will take care of it, I got out from under some debt right before my surgery, and I found a 4Runner that was dirt cheap (cut my payments almost in half) but was only a year older than my FJ. It all came together at once and I knew it was the right deal.

Now my kids are happy, I'm spending less, and a friend got the FJ and is treating it like royalty. Plus I am recuperating and not stressing about my large car payment. It all worked out.

Sometimes it is worth it to just keep your eyes peeled and take the wait and see approach. There are worse things than owning a Lexus, especially when it comes to value.... it will hold steady for quite some time. The depreciation is basically done on that vehicle (at least the big chunks... it will be slowwwww from here on out).

Without knowing the financials, it would be hard to say. But since I always seem to lose money every time I trade, I'd probably keep the Lexus.

I would need more info to make such a call, but i would probably keep the LExus, as long as the milage is comparable to the two 4runner options you have.

Will you be able to pretty much afford any of the 3 vehicles?

With the cost and the mileage on those vehicles, id just stick with the Lex and start saving for a 2010 ;)

If it was a Land Cruiser and not the LX and not green....I would have talked to you about trading my 04 sport

Aw dang! What's wrong with an LX/Green? lol

anyway, sorry it's taken me so long to respond...had a problem with my account getting unvalidated(word?).

it's no doubt that the LX is a great truck, my family are experts on these 100 series cruisers (6 of them). insurance and gas are just killing me with no real job and going to school. plus it's just totally different to drive than my 4R and I don't really need all the space.

I guess I am looking at it for more of a easier on the money point of view and trying to sell the LX private party would be hard.

I agree with keeping the Lexus. But I have to admit the 4runner is way better looking.

It also looks like your r very clear of what u want so I will say go with the sport.

Life is short... Do whatever is going to make you happy...

If it were me and I was going to be thinking about my 4runner everytime I drove my LX, it would drive me nuts, I would go get a runner, but thats just me... :bigok:

I would keep the LExus, you can make that thing look mean if you try; and it will be more unique than a 4R with stuff done to it

Looks like I'm keeping the LX for now at least, gonna give it more of a chance. I tried to talk to the dealer about the 04 but they refused to discuss pricing without me coming in.

I would say, well I couldn't. It is a tough call. Both are great trucks. If you had to choose one of the Runners, I would go with the one that has had the timing belt done. Mileage is close enough so it really isn't an issue. Year won't matter either, unless it was an 2005 than the V8 went to the VVTI which gives a little more HP. Like I said, the timing belt would be a biggie for me. If that was done on one and not the other, I would choose the one with the better maintenance record.
Good Luck
