What would you do?

$1000 budget to do a couple things.

03 Stock SR5 V8
16" wheels with 265/75 Cooper Discoverer ATRs with 80% tread left
I drive 6k miles a year
Northern Indiana, good amount of snow
Play in the mud/snow occasionally

I'm adding a 3/2 lift and am unsure if I should keep the ATRs or not. Will keep the same tire size, but I want something more aggressive looking. I've picked out the Kumho Road Venture MTs.

I'm also an Audiophile and have been looking at a Double DIN reciever with touchscreen to run the 10 speaker JBL system.

Should I do the Tires and lift and get the stereo later, or get the stereo and lift now and upgrade the tires when ready?

I guess what I'm asking is, do you think the ATRs will look aggressive enough with the lift?

Also, would the MTs be just too much for an SUV that will occasionally make a 2-3hr road trip with a family? Would the KL78s be more fitting?

Tires will run me $668 installed locally. Any other tire suggestions for a similar price?

If it were me, I would do
1. stereo
2. lift
3. tires when ready

However once I got the lift I know I would break down and find a way to do the tires too. You could always buy new tires if you didnt like the look after the lift and then sell your 80% tread tires

Good point.

I may do the lift, then see how I like the tires. If I like em, I'll do the stereo, if not, I'll do the tires.

Any reason a 3/2 lift and keeping the same size tire? I say go with the stereo first and maybe level it up until you're ready to replace the tires then go with the 3/2 and 275 or bigger m/t's. This is what I would do since its not a DD.

If you are a true audiophile then you will be disappointed with just a new head unit. I replaced mine with a Pioneer Nav unit and I dont think it sounds as clean as it did stock. For a grand you could get a pretty killer sound system going just by replacing the door speakers and the main tweets.

Update:

I somehow stumbled upon buisness/dealer pricing on tires at Sears.

The Road Venture MT is $59.

My inlaws own their own buisness and are incorporated.

lucky me.

I would:

Lift and tires
sell old tires (popular size, should sell fast on craig's)
Stereo with money from tires

Only thing is, i've heard mixed reviews on the kumho's, I would to more research first.

Being that my inlaws get such a good deal, I may go to the Duratracs or Terra Grapplers. Love the look of the Duratracs.

Will update in the next day or two after talking to them. They've already said it'd be no problem, just got to see what price the Duratracs would be.

I would take that money bet it all on the Broncos today. If i lose, SOL. But if i win, i doubled up my money. :biggrin2:

I would...
1. Lift
2. Tires
3. Stereo

Also, I run the Kumho MT's on my Tundra and they are outstanding. I have just over 15K on them and they have worn very well (still over 70% tread). They will claw thru any mud and do well in the rain and mild snow. Mild road noise for a MT.

Good luck!

Hahaha.... Ooops. Really would have made THAT bet? You MUST live IN Denver.

I don't trust Orton yet. Seems to me under pressure he looses a little accuracy. Always have liked the Broncos franchise, but been an Indy fan since the 49ers BOUGHT their last superbowl. (orig from Bay Area)

Oh and...

1) get your lift, leave the tires alone, it will look just fine
2) Then get your tunes. I LOVE my stereo upgrade
3) Replace the tires when they wear down

Amazon is your friend! I saved BIG bucks on there waiting for combined discounts...
