What would you like changed in your 5th gen?

I bought a 2012 SR5 a month ago, and so far I only have a couple gripes...
1. Too much chrome! Seems they actually did fix this in later years...I just need to get on the ball and get some plasti-dip for the chrome accents on the rocker panels and bumpers, the fog light bezels, and the front and rear emblems (I haven't totally decided how I'm going to do the emblems yet). I will order color-matched handles to replace the chrome ones as well.
2. The way this thing shifts when I'm going easy on it is maddening...all the way down in 5th gear at 30mph??? Ridiculous. And it takes giving it quite a bit of pedal (read: dumping a lot of fuel) to get it to upshift when I hit a hill at 30mph in 5th gear. So my solution is to just drive in sport mode until I'm on the highway using cruise control. No affect on my mpg.

Fuel tank won't stay full. They need to fix that.

Center Console Flip Out Tray
Has one one found an aftermarket center console top that includes the flip out tray like we had in the 4th generation? I miss that for my apre adventure snacks

1) SR5 Interior that does not scratch every time you look at it. Toyota, just one level up in interior quality is all I ask and I would gladly pay for that.
2) Also similar to topic 1, my 2017 4Runner garaged its entire life and I have overhead parking at work. I religiously use my dash sun shade if ever in the direct sun light. The decorative silver plastic strip above the glove box is deteriorating. We can definitively say 100% that defective materials were used there. Wonder if this is covered under my 10 Year Platinum warranty?
3) Wish truck had a nicer stance with respect to wheels slightly greater offset out of wheel wells without needing spacers. Looks like a little old lady truck with OEM build. I am indeed a little old lady, but still...

5) Colder A/C. I know many SR5 2017 owners say A/C is plenty cold, but for me, my A/C never blows cold enough. Once again, I should get this looked at before my 10 year Platinum warranty expires in 2027.

One of the first mods I did was a new Head Unit, I sound deadened and insulated the entire 4 runner from the all 5 doors to the entire floor and firewall. Just didn't do the ceiling. One of my favorite mods to significantly quiet up the truck. Same on Lighting, Morimoto LEDs as soon as I bought the 2014 Trail Edition used. This brings the truck slightly closer to the present time. But it is indestructible, love it. Go TERRA!!!!
1. I have the SR5 Premium which seems to be better. Has the Softex seats instead of cloth.
2. My 4Runner is parked outside all the time. My silver has not deteriorated.
3. I put a 3" front, 1" rear lift. Gets rid of the raked look and makes the 4Runner more purposeful looking. Also put on KO2 tires which gives better off road than the original Dunlops, and makes it look rugged.
5. My A/C works great even in the hottest climate (112 degrees at Page, AZ).
6. I put in the custom LasFit LED Pro-DC headlight bulbs. Huge improvement.

I just own its bigger brother, a ‘99 K2500 Suburban with 6.5 diesel. Ironically it gets about the same mpg as our 4Runners, but it’s huge, comfortable and it can haul much more.

Definitely brighter interior lights!
Depending on the year, lots of options to change out the lights for LEDs. I did that on my 2018 4Runner.

Climate control knobs color options
I’m just looking to change the little orange plastic piece on the climate control knob to a different color.
It’s a little plastic piece that directs and colors the led light on the knob. The tiny plastic insert is easily removable and I want mine to be blue, but no one sells them! This would be such an easy 3d print for someone that has a printer and the specs of the little plastic piece!
Unfortunately I have neither.
Anyone know if I can find this custom piece anywhere?!

One of my main peeves is the temperature control...whenever I turn the temperature knob all the way down the a/c comes on. Very annoying. All I want is cooler air. If I wanted a/c I would turn it on myself!
Also...something I saw that the new Ford Bronco offers. A solid mounting strip on the dash to allow those of us who use GPS units and phones a rock-solid place to mount these things.

Yeah I definitely agree about the AC thing! Super annoying! .. and once you go back a notch (or more) on the cool the AC STAYS ON until you press the button to turn it off! So dumb !!

oh I have one - the 7 and 4 pin trailer plug are in the worst location. most vehicles have them facing straight out. toyotas are facing down to the ground and they are upside down way under the bumper, so using a tester most testers will be facing straight to the ground and you can't see the test lights. I know it's not a tow vehicle but damn cmon make my life easier toyota. real pain. could have just mounted it right beside the hitch like on pickups, easier to access
