What would you value this '15 at?

I'm in the market to buy a new/newer 5th gen and recently took a look at this one https://www.echopark.com/used/Toyota/2015-Toyota-4Runner-6d9539500a0e0a173e183ec4c17fe734.htm. It does seem a tad overpriced for mileage and condition, especially when a brand new SR5 is only a couple thousand more. The real only draw I'd have to something like this is that it already has the lift/tires/step that I'd put on a brand new one, which saves me a couple thousand dollars right out of the gate, along with the lower price to begin with of course. I've never had a car from brand new, and the idea of knowing the full true history is definitely appealing to me though, even if it means I would have to wait on all the goodies for a while since the car costs more to begin with. Sorry for the rant, I appreciate all your input as always!!

Focoty...I was in the same market you are in July...and bought my 2014 SR5P 4x4 with 24K miles on it...listed at $32.5...I paid $31K or thereabouts... I wanted the leather and 4x4 and didn't want to pay $36-38K....all that said...I think with the mods they are close...but maybe settle at 28-29K ?

From the pics it looks to be a front spacer lift. So not a lot of money spent there. I would think that a 2018 NEW SR5 base 4x4 could be had for around $33 give or take.

I was quoted 32 pre tax/fees for an SR5 and 34 for an SR5 Premium so its definitely not too far off at all. And a spacer lift can definitely be had cheap, I guess it was the wheels and nearly new Duratracs that really caught my attention. Then again I guess a person could just suck it up for a while and save up for the tires and wheels of course! Being impatient is no fun at all.

Yeah it's definitely tough when these things hold their value so well! Both a good and bad thing I guess. This particular one is at one of those "no haggle" dealers so who knows how much they actually budge, but I personally think there is always wiggle room even in those types of dealerships

In my limited experience, they mean it. You have to wait for them to get tired of holding it in inventory and lower the price.

When I was shopping, they quoted me $37,499 on this 2016. I showed them a better offer I had on a new 2018 SR5, and they backed out.

Almost a month later, they have it at 36,249.

Oh wow from the same place too, good to know. I’ve dealt with carmax before and generally if you have legitimate reasons that they are overpriced and can prove it, they budge a bit. I’ve never dealt with EchoPark though so I wasn’t sure. I guess if I was in their shoes though I’d orobably price it high and hold it knowing that somebody will eventually pay.

Buy the wheels & tires up front and then sell your stock wheels and tires separately. Listed my stock wheels at $400 and sold them locally for $375 to a guy with a 4th gen. For some reason, the 4th gen guys seem to love the 5th gen SR5 rims.

List the tires separately and mention all of the vehicles that the stock tires will fit in a CL add. same for the rims.

No hard ceiling, but I’d prefer to stay 33-ish and under all said and done. I was quoted 32 for an SR5 and 34 for a premium all before tax and fees so that’s not too bad. And that was I’m sure similar to what you did as I sent those out to most dealers from Fort Collins to Colorado Springs and that seemed to be about the bottom line. And that’s the other reason I’m leaning new, if I spend that much on something I’d plan to keep it as long as possible. But it’s nice to know that you don’t lose a huge chunk of money just by driving it off the lot.

Not a bad idea at all, I wouldn’t have even thought t spit up the wheels and tire and sell separately. That alone would probably pay for half of the new ones!

it cost me $50 to upgrade my rims and $400 to upgrade my tires. add a mount and balance and it still ain't bad

also, I sold my stock tires to a friend for $200 with 25k on them. Lower mileage might yield a better net. Especial during pothole season.

Man...I dunno if $34K for a 2018 4x4 P is possible...that sounds low...maybe they plan to hose you on the financing...when I was shopping I was falling in the high 35s-36K for 4x4P....

if that's the case, I might have gone a diff way...I just didn't get that quote

These trucks will last 4ever...so buying used didn't phase me too much

Yeah there is definitely no shortage of them. I think what caught my eyes with that one in particular were the nfab steps, toytec lift, and nearly new expensive tires. All things I would plan on getting anyway. I think I could probably do better though buying a stock vehicle and piecing together that stuff over time

When I was shopping early 2016 I found that basically every 10k miles on a used 4runner was about $500 off new pricing for the same model - made more sense to me to just buy new, have the warranty and know the full history of the vehicle. Plus I know that on the back-end if I decide to sell I will have the benefit of the truck holding it's value so well - and in fact, the truck was totaled after 8 months and 8k miles and was paid out by insurance for $1k more than I had bought the truck for. I simply went back to the dealer and bought another one.

So depending on your money situation, it might be better to just purchase new and save for the tires/wheels/etc. I did that and ultimately made better choices on those upgrades because I was forced to spend a ton of time researching what I wanted (And ultimately things I thought I wanted but I decided NOT to buy saved me money in the end)
