What's broke? (pic)

My fuel filler door won't "pop" open like it's sposed to. This just started the other day. I've had to have help opening it to get gas or put my pocket knife in the seam and do it myself. I know there is a spring broke but don't have anything to go by. Can anyone see what's broke by the pic? I beleive it's the black plastic thing on the hinge.

Yup...had the same issue. Its just a small piece of springy metal. Thank God mine was still inside when it popped off. Had to use a small ziptie to fix it for right now.

had that same problem when i first got my 4runner, all i did was get a small spring and and twist it into that little hole by the gas cap holder. Its been 7 months now and still works. best 10 cents ever spent lol.

You may still have the spring there. Mine just needed a little bending to open it up a little more.

That little stub looking thing on the black plastic piece in the red square is broken. It is usually attached to a metal piece that props you door open when released from inside the car. Its a simple piece to replace. It seems you have lost the part that is usually attached to it. I know, mine is like this now but I didn't loose the broken piece. Its in my door pocket :)

heh. yours doesn't want to open and mine randomly pops open. silly gas caps.

I was behind a 3rd gen the other day and when he turned off his gas door flew open, then back shut when he got back straight. Didn't realize that actually happens to these things.
