What's it worth?

I am CONSIDERING selling the 4Runner and I am having a hard time figuring out the value. I have seen complete POS's sell for $3k~ and I have seen some really nice ones sell for $2k. most recently, a local one with a blown engine, crap interior and rougher body than mine sold for $1000...

I am the second owner, it's an '87, 22RE, 5-speed, new 31" tires, fresh tune-up/oil change, great interior, exterior is decent. no noise, no smoke, no leaks. body has 209K miles, drivetrain has about 80K miles, everything that has been done to it since new was done at a toyota dealership and I can get all of the records. that includes the newer drivetrain and all servicing.

The frame is SOLID, it has always been under coated. everything on it works as it should, only rust is above the wheel arches out back and the previous owner smacked a deer so I put a new fender, grille and headlight on it. I was thinking $2500, any 4X4 is worth a decent amount around here as we get a lot of snow so...

god, i cant believe you paid $400 for that! I bought mine here in Missouri for 400 with a motor that died after 900 miles and a knocking transmission that i had rebuilt after i bought it. I would give $2 for it, also what would the drive train consist of?

i would try 3000 or better offer see what they say
but before you do that go to walmart pic up some silver paint and paint the fender it may not match but better than red on silver

It's white. LOL, with silver graphics... I washed it after I took the pictures and it is clearly white now but. I didn't do that because I was planning to paint the whole thing come spring. You are right though, couldn't hurt if I am going to try and sell it.

if $2 means, $2k, come get it

they replaced the engine, clutch assembly and transmission. They "serviced" the T-case at that time as well. I have no idea what that consisted of though.

The trans was clunky already then the guy bent a rod so he had them do both while they had it. Not a rebuild but brand new crate engine/trans direct from the Toyota dealership.

I am only thinking of selling it because I want to build a decent off-road vehicle for a decent price. I can get a million different SFA vehicles around here for pretty cheap so I wouldn't have to deal with the SAS or pay for the IFS lift kit. Plus the interior on this thing is just GREAT and I would feel horrible destroying it.


I am sure the 4Runner is a good starting point but the lack of power and the IFS keeping me running a smaller tire is crappy. I think I would be happier with something that has more then 100hp~ and I can run 40"s+ on. I found a '75 Chevy with a 454, lifted on 36"s right now that I want so...

Thanks for the input guys! It didn't last long! I traded it for one of ym old cars (1987 Fiero with a 3.4L DOHC swap I did) and I also got a 1976 F150, 390, 4X4 jacked up on 40"s...

In case anyone is interested, here is what is replacing the 4Runner. it's a '76 F150 with an 80's GMC box. 390 big block, 4-speed top-loader, 39" tires, Warn lockouts, 10Klb winch (I took it off and put it in the garage, didn't want to risk it getting snagged or something) 8" Rancho lift, 3" body lift. No blocks, leafs out back, no lift blocks. I will probably be cutting the rear wheel wells a little as they are about 3"-5" from the tires as it sits.
