whats the best exhaust systems for 4th gen?

alright my exhaust is completely rotted and will not pass the upcoming inspection plus my right side manifold is leaking ill be getting Doug Thorley's for those but in terms of exhaust systems what's good in terms of price, reliability, and sound I don't want anything that's crazy loud just something that looks good and has more of a deeper growl this is for a 4.7L V8 as well I was thinking about the Gibson single exit cat back exhaust black elite here https://www.carid.com/gibson/black-...-618815b.html?singleid=1119831508&url=1655344

but I am open to suggestions.

If you can locate one, TRD used to make a stainless dual exhaust that angles out behind each rear wheel. It sounds awesome on mine with the Thorley headers. To me it is perfect because it has a nice deep, aggressive note while under acceleration, but is fairly quiet when just cruising through the neighborhood so you don’t piss people off. I researched systems for months before settling on this one, and have zero regrets. It’s going to be be more expensive than the Gibson, or other aftermarket options, but the look and sound was worth it to me.

Yeah that's exactly what I want something that sounds good when you floor it but quiet for every day driving I think this is what I'm gonna get

My Dirty Deeds system is nice, but not cheap. Has a built in resonator to keep the drone down. Not sure how it compares to that Gibson one you listed, but mine is stainless and heavy as a tank. Sounds awesome but quiet once up to speed.

How did you order their system? Nothing on their website seems to indicate they make a 4th gen exhaust system. Love the way your rig sounds and I hate drone. Willing to pay for the right system.

I installed the stainless steel Gibson with dual side exhaust. It has really good sound - rumble while idling, quiet for daily driving, and more of a roar when accelerating/downshifting.

Hey there, I'm thinking of installing the same headers and pipes on my 2004. Did you end up doing this? How do you like it? Most importantly, I'm not real car savvy and I'm trying to figure out if this system eliminates any of the cats. I'll need a shop to install it, and they obviously can't do it if it does. Nor would I want to, anyway.

I have a Walker replacement on mine, much lighter than stock, probably because it has no packing, and it makes just slightly more noise than stock, nothing objectionable and it bolts right up, less than an hour for R&I. Less than $300 when I bought it few years ago.

sorry for the late response, I got the Gibson cat back and Doug long tubes the long tube eliminated the front two cats and I love it soooooo much better then the stock system and feels quicker too haha

I highly recommend the magnaflow overland kit. Super easy to install and sounds great!

In the city, however, it's a different story. Stepping on the gas pedal between 1,200 and 1,900 RPM it drones so much it drives me crazy. I can't wait to replace it with something quiet.

Got the same issue with the magnaflow on my 08 urban runner. I was actually thinking of having a resonator put in but I would have to go back to stock location of tail pipe to do it.

My Magnaflow is also a lot louder than I expected or wanted. Between ~1500 and 2500 rpms, it’s really annoying, and I had already installed sound deadening in the entire interior to hear my stereo better.

I have also considered adding another small muffler or a resonator to my system to get the sound level down.

Second this. I should have done this the first time I needed to replace my exhaust.

I initially went with a Walker system off RockAuto, but had to replace it in 3 years due to rust. Replacement was a practically new 5th gen exhaust. Plug and play. Perfect fit.

After installing the 5th gen exhaust, I realized the aftermarket Walker system was causing noticeable cabin vibration at idle. Not sure why exactly, but the walker muffler is significantly smaller than the OEM toyota muffler (both the original 4th gen version and 5th gen version).

If you have young ears, just cut the muffler off! Will it drone slightly? Yes. But it's tolerable, as I always have the radio on!. Welded-in a pipe, sounds amazing. Has a raspy note but can be mild if not bashing the throttle! This is the cheapest way to let the 4.7 sing. I elected to keep the resonator on towards the back for now. I plan to install the popular DT headers, and when I am sick of the mild drone, will look towards the TRD/Magnaflow cat-back options!
