What's the diff between sunroof and moonroof?

I always say i have a moonroof b/c it opens by a switch. I used to have a car that i say it had a sunroof b/c it opens/closes manually. That's just me but correct me if i'm wrong.

I always thought the moonroof was either when the sunroof was closed, or it was not operable (like a skylight) and the sunroof opened and closed.. maybe i'm wrong??

A sunroof is glass and a moonroof is metal. At least that's what I've always thought. But overall, it's all the same isht.

A sunroof is for daylight, a moonroof is for night. :lol:

(I always thought the terms were interchangeable.)

Sunroof lets in sunlight, and moonroof lets in moonlight (very simple) - actually from my understanding of things, which is very little, a sunroof means you can open and close it whereas a moonroof is a fixed piece of glass on the roof.

To me a "moonroof" slides into the roof, allowing it to be fully or partially open. In contrast, a "sunroof" just tilts up or down and maybe lifts out completely.

I've always looked at it the way another said, if the roof is one that just tips up, or can be taken out completely, its a sunroof. If it tilts up or slides open, manual or power, its a moonroof. Looking through the owners manual for my 02 it clearly calls the option a moonroof. So as far as Toyota is concerned 4Runners come with a moonroof.

So basically you are proud to say you litter, there are other ways to discourage tailgating then trashing the road ways. If you were kidding I apologize, but littering is a pet peeve of mine.

It boils down that it's the same thing. Moonroof = Sunroof. Regardless if it's a piece of glass or metal or it's opened manually or via automatic button. Basically it's a hole on the roof where you can have some sun during the day and have some moonlight at night.

Well only a guy would come up with these questions...I asked my dad..

He seems to think that a moonroof tilts only and doesnt completely open..and a sunroof comes completely open...

This morning mine was a fogroof and now it's a cloudroof. Last night it was a garage ceiling roof...

I had never heard of the term moonroof until I moved to the US. I think it's an American term.
