What's the newest used suspension I can use?

Hey guys, I'm in a bit of a pinch where my front strut/shock has sheared off while going into my works driveway on my 99 4Runner. I would like to get this fixed ASAP if possible but if I buy new it'll be the weekend or possible next weekend before I can have parts to me and installed thanks to the holiday. Now there's some used shocks I can get tomorrow if needed and these range from being 3rd gen OEM ones to much newer higher end ones for other gen 4runners which I feel would save me both money and, most importantly, time. My only concern though is that these are for newer gen 4runners. With that being said, what is the newest shocks I can put on a 99? Will the ones from a 5th gen work for example? Or is the cutoff exactly at 3rd gen meaning 96-2002 is the max?

4th & 5th gens have longer front shocks that aren’t compatible with our generation 4Runners. The only interchangeability is with 1st gen Tacomas, but since 2004 is the last year on those, they’re not really much newer.

Are you sure you need the OEM part...just asking.

It sounds to me this is just a daily driver. Just buy whatever aftermarket struts you can get your hands on.

The 5th Gen rear springs can be used in the rear of a 3rd Gen for a 2"-3" lift. The 5th gen rear shocks give about 3 inch lift but cannot be paired with 5th gen rear springs because they have tendency to fallout. Also needed are rear bump stop extension.

Thankfully, I'll be working from home and can get by until next Monday. I went ahead and purchased the Bilstein 5100's all around. Anything I should know beforehand? Which notch should I put them on to get a lift?
