Whats this thing, and what does it do?

98' 4Runner - Auto trans

This is attached to my transfer case and the bushing is toast. Looking to find out what it is so I can replace it...Also curious as to what it is for?

Its supposed to be a harmonic balancer. I took it off and threw it in the trash long ago and couldnt notice a difference. Just be carful if you take it off. Its heavier than it looks and may want to hit you in the face

Did you take it off a daily driver or trail rig?

I was thinking that was what it was for, and with the rubber being broken I suspect it isn't providing any vibration protection :girl:

x2 on the harmonic dampener. Pull it off. You wouldn't notice if it fell off anyways (unless you drove over it)
