whats up with '03 4Runner 4-low beeping?

hey there.
We have an '03 4runner (v8 automatic),
and when we put it in 4-low, it beeps the whole time. Its super annoying.
Is this a 'feature' on all these models, or is the bepping supposed to stop after a little while? Does anyone know if it can be turned off, or shortened?
The dealer mechanic said theres nothing he can do. A light would have been alot better of a way to notify the driver...

Its a warning signal to let you know 4LO is not engaging. Indicator is probably blinking also. See pp 140 of owners manual.

MrTom is right on the money... it doesn't beep when properly engauged. Sometimes it can be a bit of a stinker.

thanks for the reply. Youre right about it not going into 4low...
I went for a quick test drive, and it sure doesnt seem to be going into 4low.
I'm going to bring it back into the dealer (who told me the 03 4Runers do that when its in 4low...)

You must (1) come to a complete stop, and (2)put trany in N (3) before engaging 4LO.

Ah, the magic 'one-two' worked! Thanks! I now have 4-low and no beeping!

Damn, you would think I would have tried putting the truck in neutral before putting it in 4low, but nope. I am too used to my old LandCruisers manual gears.
Seems all this newfangled gadgetry gots me confused and I needs to pay closer attention to the fine print in the manual!

Ok, over that hump. Now if you got the gee- wiz radio break out the book to figure out the RDS/Traf/Text/remote control & steering wheel buttons. Push the" mode" button till you hear a beep. I have had my 4Runner since last Sept and STILL have to get the manual out.
