I have seen one of those before. I was very surprised also. It looked like my '06 Galactic Grey Sport Edition, but had the Limited rails, grille, and rack. I dont think the one I saw had a rear spoiler either. Very odd.
Pardon my question but maybe I'm still too new with the 4Runner but I fail to see the problem with this picture. This appears to look exactly like the 2009 Sport V6 I purchased 3 weeks ago. Grill, silver rails, alloys, foglights everything seems to fit... Although mine is a lighter shade of grey.

In 2006, the 4Runner had a few subtle styling changes. The wheels wells were more rounded with bigger flares, the shape of the headlights changed slightly and went to projector lenses, the grille was slightly modified and the Sport Edition (like the picture) came with tubular running boards and roof rack. This picture shows all of the '06 updates with the same roof rack and running boards you'd see on an '05 Sport Edition. So it just looks odd to me.

Im gonna say its the front skid, looks like its off a 3rg gen maybe a taco ??? but that skid doesnt look right:lookout:

What you are most likely looking at is a Canadian market 4Runner SE. Up here all the SE versions look like that. I've never seen an SE in Canada with tubular running boards or roof rack unless it was a US import. When I was surfing Autotrader looking for my 4R seeing a 4R with tubular running boards and roof rack was a dead giveaway that I was looking at a US import.

i dont think thats an 05 because of the foglights. they're in that black case.i think toyota started doing that later. i could be wrong though

Really? That's weird because I've never once seen a picture of a Sport Edition like that, which makes me think we must not have too many Canadian forum members with '06+ Sport Editions.

No, you're not wrong, you're right. Everything about that 4Runner says '06 or newer Sport Edition, except the roof rack and running boards, which is how they were on the '05 and earlier models. That's why I said it almost looks like a 2005.5 model. As far as I know, there really wasn't a 2005.5 model. I believe all the changes came at the same time when the '06 models hit the dealers lots.

Wow, so I still think it's strange that I've never seen a forum member with one of these Canadian Sport Editions. I'm kinda surprised that the tubular rack/running boards is only for U.S. spec 4Runners. But I guess it doesn't matter because I like them both ways, whether they have the tubular stuff or not. But to me, the newer Sport Editions looks strange without the tubular boards/racks.

Yes, but that's true here in the U.S. too, depending upon the region. In my region, it is very rare to see a Sport Edition without the factory rear spoiler. In other regions, it's quite common. I'm not sure why, but that's just the way it is.

They all come in the same way in Canada. Any SEs in Canada with the rear spoiler, had them installed by the dealer. Unlike in the US which has regional distributors who are independent of Toyota and make their own decisions on what they import and distribute within their region , Toyota Canada is the sole importer and distributor of Toyota vehicles through all of Canada. That's why from 2008 on Toyota Canada decided not to import V8 SEs into the country. You could only get the V8 in the Limited from 2007 on.
Here's the e-mail reply from Toyota Canada regarding the unavailability of the V8 in the 2008 SE

Please be advised that the 2008 4Runner SR5 Sport Edition Package cannot be ordered with a V8 engine.

Hey, a little off topic, but what do you think of the new Pilot? You're the same guy on the Pilot forum who had both a 4Runner and Pilot at one point, right? I guess you really must have liked the 4Runner since you're on your second one (at least). Do you still have a Pilot too? I kinda like the blocky styling of the new Pilot, but I'm not a fan of the grille.
