What's your 4Runner 4 Life Plan?

always has been and always will be my snowboard rig. Other cars will come and go, but that will remain constant.
 
It's been my DD for eight years now and was my wife's DD before that. I am going to drive it until the wheels fall off.
 
Like a few of the guys mentioned previously. I bought my 97 SR5 brand new and it has been my DD for the last 15 years. It just hit 167,000 miles on it and it's still running strong.
This past February I bought myself a new 2011 SR5 so that is now my DD and the 97 is now used by my daughter who drives it to high school which is about 7 minutes away and then I take it when I ned to go to Home Depot or places where I don't want to dirty my new truck.
So yes basically going to keep it forever because it looks soooo good stil. See link below:

My wife says i cant sell it, i own it, insurance is cheap so i guess we're keeping it for as long as i can keep it running lol we have 2 other cars so it doesn't get driven too much, more of a weekend vehicle so i foresee it lasting for a long time lol

As long as i have it i will keep adding and modding it. I have plans for all kinds of things to add to it, i have plenty of time so no rush. Sliders, rear bumper, roof rack, lockers, regearing, all kinds of stuff i could do in the future

Currently my DD/weekend wheeler. But that is going to change in a couple days.

In the end, it will probably turn into something like the MossyRunner.
 
Running it until the wheels fall off! It is my DD and I tend to drive A LOT daily, so I'm doing what I can now to make that as long as possible... or as long as I can keep my LC itch at bay.

Minimal mods but definitely going the expedition/overlander route vs a crawler or similar.
Suspension coming soon, in the midst of routine maintenance (is it still "routine" at 180k miles?!), then probably some sort of custom sleeping platform for the back.
 
Its my daily driver, and I intend to drive it until it dies. (Hopefully not for many, many years.)

Then I'll revive it, and drive it until I die. (Again, hopefully not for many, many years.)

When that happens, I told my wife to bury me in it.
 
It's my DD for now, but I will probably end up selling it for a 2nd gen Taco or 1st gen Tundra. I love my 4runner, but I love having a truck and I plan on getting my fiance a Highlander, so we will have the SUV option. Then I will buy a 1st gen 4runner to be my trail rig. This won't be for a while as my fiance is getting the next new car so I can get her out of her Jeep.

I wish I could say I'd keep it forever, but 1st gens will always be the best 4runners IMO.
 
1997 with 185k miles; been my DD since 2000, when it had 40k miles.

Plan to drive it until it bursts into flames. I've thought of getting a different DD to save miles, but I couldn't stand the thought of leaving it home most days. Love driving it.

I agree. I too have a special place for 1st gens.

Yeah my first car was a 1st gen and have always wanted another after mine was totaled.

Good thing you did create a useful thread. We were about to have a intervention regarding your useless thread habits. ;):
 
I'm on the fence. My 4Runner is currently my DD, offroad, and exploration rig. I'd rather it to be good at everything and not the best at any one thing. I see a Landcruiser in my future: if I can find the perfect 80, the 4runner will go but if I end up in a 100 series, the 4Runner will probably go to crazy crawler town.

on a side note, how sad is it that I'm posting on here while sitting on the beach in Barbados??!!! I just can't stay away....
 
Mine is my daily driver but since my only driving now is just going to and from the grocery store and to and from the lake for fishing then I only put about 5000 miles or less on it each year.

I am 53, the 4Runner has 161,000 miles on it and I am hoping to get 300,000+
at 5000 miles a year I can drive it another 20 years until I am 73 assuming I live that long and only put another 100,000 on it.
So my plan is to drive it literally into the ground with me.
 
Some day I am going to win a spot to drive my personal vehicle into Denali National Park, so I'll take a couple of months off, load up the 4Runner and drive to Alaska all the way to the Arctic Ocean (or at least as close as I can get). Then down to Denali, drive through the park and head back home. By that time I'll have new bumpers, lift, winch, wheels/tires, roof rack, seats, supercharger and a whole lot of miles wandering the mountains on old mining trails/passes/roads.
 
I love the look of the 3rd gens so im gonna keep mine til the wheels fall off and then bolt them back on and keep on rolling :) I have alot of plans for mine after I finish school
 
highly moded tacoma baja bedsides.
homemade front long travel ifs at least 20'' of travel
homemade long travel rear. at least 30'' of travel
maybe 5speed if one shows up in the junk yard
basic engine work on the heads
headers and 3'' exhaust
 
I'll love my 4Runner and I'll keep it as long as I can... but my first $100 fillup may make me think twice about that. It's already $70-$80 now :(
