whats your engine oil temp? mines running at 240!

Hey guys I just added a engine oil cooler. I tapped into the side of the oil filter sand which adapter for the temp sender. Just normal driving my water temp stay at 170 and my engine oil temp is at 240 is that normal for these engines? Does anyone here have a engine oil temp gauge on there 4runner?

240 degrees is probably fine. The oil temp needs to be above 212, the boiling point of water, to boil off any moisture that occurs.

Most good aftermarket oil coolers will come with a thermostat so that the oil doesn't get circulated through the cooler unless it's above 212.

Makes sense about being above 212 thanks for info. But this kit I made doesn't have a thermostat hopefully it warms up in the winter time. I probably just put some aluminum tape on the front of the cooler in the dead winter.

Thanks man it was allot of work to get everything to fit and clear! And also if you notice there is a 16 inch spal pusher fan underneath everything that I mounted that was also allot of work.

Just keep an eye on it. I'm guessing you have a way to monitor the temp since you knew it was 240 degrees...

How does this make sense? What is the lowest pressure the oil is under when the engine is operating? And where does this occur?

The water could boil out if oil temp is above 212*F if @ 1ATM pressure. Is the oil pan low pressure?

Yup I just mounted all my gauges to the dash to make room for 2 more gauges underneath the radio. On the dash I have a air fuel ratio gauge, boost gauge, water temp, trans temp, oil temp and 3 led indicators green for meth injection activation, orange for pusher fan and red for radiator fan. Im adding a oil pressure gauge and a fuel level gauge when I put a fuel cell in the rear where the spare tire was.

I wanted to add the oil cooler because ever since I got rid of my mechanical fan nothing can keep it cool it always over heats I have tried both these combination of electric fans and nothing works.

Sorry, I don't have any technical info to back up my statement. That's just what I have been taught by other mechanics...

I'll see if I can't do a little research and come up with some info to back it up.

Did you verify you're pumping out enough juice to run those fans right? Seems to me a cleaner solution might have been to put the mechanical fan back in.

I wouldn't worry if 240 was the max you were seeing while going up a hill with a full load, but if your seeing that just coasting down the highway you need to get it cooled better. I have no idea what temp a stock 4runner see's but my car, with an oil cooler, bouncing around off the red line for 20 mins on a track day barely get's over 200. I would not be comfortable seeing 240 all the time.

Its only two fans I dont think its to much power draw on the alternator. I have thought about putting my fan back on but the blades are broken so I would have to buy a new one and I also hate the power loss when it kicks in.

Yeah its always at 240 to 230 I did run it a little hard yesterday in the sand and I forgot to turn the fans on for a little bit water temp went up to 210 but oil temp never went up above 240.
