Negative ghostrider, them bearings are sealed. It takes a 20 ton press and some gusto to shadetree a new one in. $300 to $600 for a mechanic to perform the work, depending who you take it to.

:iagree: You can save some money by taking the spindle and new bearing to a machine shop and have them press them for ya.

I used a puller and took my spindle right a part.
Need a press to put things back together though.
To answer your question. If they are roaring already , it is to late.
But just to get you by until you can do a proper replacement, I would jack the 4runner up, Take the wheel off, take the center hub cap off. fill the inner cavity with some lucas gear oil. Fill an oil squirt bottle with gear oil, insert into the hub and fill it till it runs out the front, then put the hub cap on. It will only take a few oz as the knuckle cavity is quite small. It will take a little bit for the oil to get past the seal and into the bearing but it should quieten it down until you can replace it.
Need a press to put things back together though.

Im far from a mechanic does this make a cricket chirping type noise because I just started to get some type of noise that sounds like a chorus of crickets while I am driving.
I already know I need new front axles. The inner CV's recently tore. Will they do the bearings during that. I am completely ignorant but the cricket noise is driving me nuts. It started this last week after I took the truck through some mud pits.
