Wheel Bearings DIY HELP

Hey guys,


I took my 4runner in yesterday because I was getting a buzzing sound from my tires. Although my tires are new and not chopped.

I was also goin to have them turn my rotors for the 6th time now since I got the 4runner.

Come to find out that the reason I was getting the noise and the random vibrations in the rotors is because my wheel bearings are bad.

The Master Tech lift my truck and he shook my wheels with ease.

They said I need both of my front bearings replaced and possibly the Axle Hubs.

Best price w/o the hubs $800. Worst price withthe hubs $1,100.

I am pretty confident I could do this myself, although the tech strongly recommmeded that I don't. But $1,100 is crap load of money.

Toyota has the breaings for $165, and ADVANCE autopart has them for $91.

No one but Toyota sells the hubs, and they would cost me $135.

So I am looking at a best case $182 to do it myself, and $452 worst case with bearings and hubs.

The is a machanic shop by my house that will depress and complress the hubs for me once they are off for $30.

MY QUESTIONS IS...How hard is this to do myself? Am I really crazy to try this on my own?

i used to do this in my hondas all the time. its not that hard and looking at the diagram. it doesnt look hard at all it looks like a and old accord. all you need to do is pull the hub bearings and get them to a bearing press. Machine shops have them and i used to get charged $30 each to press them in. i remmber autozone had a warranty on their bearings and kragen didn't . so i would go and ask for the warranty. especially if you dont go oem. hubs dont go bad unless they are scratched or pitted. Your mechanic will know ryt away. pm me if you have any questions.

just try it if your gonna run 20's this might be a norm for you. i was doing it on an accord with 18's. its not that hard and if you can do brakes you can do this. its just a couple extra steps and if your 4wd drive you will need a hub socket and a pittman arm puller. that autozone rents out for free.
